Question Mobil 1 Viscosity for C32

Hi all:

I just picked up my C32 last weekend and I wanted to get some Mobil 1 to keep in the trunk. I looked in the Owners "book" and it says ask the dearler. Asked them and was directed to two techs that couldn't remember because they use what they buy in the big bulk container....

...will somebody please let me know what color cap (or viscosity rating) Mobil 1 I should use?

I live in the East San Francisco Bay Area.

Thanks!

PS If there are any dramatically good hints on this car to know about 'd appreciate any contributions of info. ej

Ed:

The weather in San Fran never gets brutally cold. Your best bet is 15W 50 (Red Cap). In Europe most AMG vehicles get Mobil 1 straight 40 weight. However 40 is very hard to find in this country. The C32 is an extreme high performance engine so you need an oil that is a little thicker. 10W 30 and 5W 30 would be fine also but your best best bet is 15W 50.

Ed, in addition to your owner's manual, you should have received a small booklet titled "Factory Approved Service Produts". In that booklet is information about what oils to use, and a viscosity chart. The chart lists various synthetic oils for all vehicles equipped with FSS as of model year 1998. I don't know whether the C32 has other information which supersedes this booklet.

The viscosity chart shows 15W-50 is suitable for temperatures not dropping below +5 degrees F. So, rake55 is probably correct.

It sounds like your dealer uses the same oil for the C32 as the other models. If so, I'll bet it's lower viscosity than 15W -- just wondering. I'm surprised they couldn't tell you what they use.
