K&N Filter cleaner cleans Greens better....
Ok guys/gals
I have both the K&N filters and Green Filters. I cleaned the K&N filters and installed them so I can clean my Greens. Well I found out that the K&N filter cleaner did a much better job at cleaning the Green filters I mean it cleaned it 100% compared to the Green filter cleaner. Now there is a warning of using strong detergents aside the Green filter cleaner but it just doesn't clean anywhere near as good. After trying it it appears to be fine and gonna re-oil with the Green filter oil. Just wanted to inform yous.

Are you saying you cleaned the Green Filters with the K&N cleaner? If so, not a good idea. They are different material filters, you should NOT clean one with another brand desiged to clean a different type of material.

Yeah it says that as a warning but the green filter cleaner did a lousy job so I decided to try the K&N cleaner and it worked alot better. So I figured I let the forum know. I will try to get ingredients for both unless someone knows to compare cleaners. Maybe the 1st time it might not cause an issue but I will try with the green filter cleaner again when the time comes.

I would seriously doubt that one cleaner used on the others filter would cause any damage as both filters are pretty much a cotton based material. What seperates each from the other are the pleat patterns and mainly how the material is woven together and perhaps the layers used. The 'only use on K&N' or 'only use on Green' is marketing at its best.

One the same subject of K&N vs Green, has anyone actually taken the two filters apart and determine the actual thickness of the two as well as to determine what the total surface area of the two filters side by side is??More surface area allows for less 'loading' (with dirt) via a lower pressure drop across the filter hence more cfm thru it.

Thanks for the input guys............I strongly agree with the hogwash alot of companies say to use their products. But still will give the Greenfilter cleaner one more chance at about 65k. If the GF cleaner don't do well I will use the K&N cleaner again til I see the filter give way. By the way the engine did feel a little more peppier with the fresh Greens then the K&N.

correct me if i'm wrong but I understand K&N filter cleaner to be just soap and water. I've used dishsoap and water together w/no problems on a K&N filter I used for about 50,000 miles on one of my cars.

the green filter cleaner is just diluted "simple green" gunk remover. if you dont' believe me- smell the two. i just use the simple green then oil it.
