Coolant Pump Failure Poll. Has yours failed? At what odometer reading? Model year?
I want to get a sense of what percentage of these things are failing, and if so, at what mileage. If there's a high failure rate, and predictable timeframe, it may be good cause to seek help from MB. They want to nurture their AMG owner base. They should step up and extend warranties if that's the case.
My answer:
2002 C32.
40,000 miles.
Pump has not failed.

Just a thought......but won't it appear as though you have 100% failure, in your poll, because the people responding (such as myself) are the people that have had the i/c pump fail?
The only way to tell the failure rate would be to have all C32 owners polled. I'm guessing that a majority fail around 40 to 50K but a strong percentage might never fail. Just my $.02.

Looks like the coolant pump is a weak point.

Over the years, I have spoken to over twenty different C32 owners with failed pumps. There were also a number of 55 owners and one 65 with failed pumps as well.
The questions are:
- Will it fail on every car? Or a certain percentage?
- When? At what age? Mileage?
- Is there a way to prevent it?
On the forum we just do not have enough owners to make predictions and be 100% certain.
If I just bought a C32, that would be the first thing to check out or if you want to be 100% sure - replace.

2006 SLK55* 6,500 mile without failure

Your 55s aren't going have super-charger intercooler pump failure, FWIW.
For the poll/record, I'm at about 50k miles and I have not had an intercooler pump failure. I will be replacing mine before the winter storage though.

2002 C32 I/C pump failure after hitting 55k miles mark
replaced at 43% of the total cost (new part+labour) because of the italian law for cars over 4 years of "age"
in simple words: 190€ / 235$, job done by official MB dealer using regular MB spare part

If you do a search on the E55 forum, for pump failure, there are lots of intercooler pump failures. Kleeman builds an upgrade kit for the E55 and appraently Evosport has something also. Some use a Johnson pump.

That is pretty much it. The hotter the temps outside, the more pronouncable the loss of power. Last week, when things were pretty hot here is So Cal, you definately should have felt it when the engine warmed up. Sometimes the computer with throw a code that the dealership will pick up. The first time I went in for the pump, the computer did not throw the code, the second time it had. Bam. It was replaced.
