Talking SL55 Front Calipers and Rotors on a C55

Hi Guys,

Has anyone attempted this? I picked them up almost 2yrs ago, before I even thought of buying a C55 and I figured I would ask for the good/bad news before I pulled my hair out trying.

I've got Mandrus milleniums which have good caliper clearance but realize wheels still might be an issue.

Any input is sincerely appreciated-the strength of this forum was key to my purchasing the C55 in the first place. BTW I've purchased a Kleemann headers and S/C kit and will keep you guys in the loop as the install progresses.

All the best,

Torq

it's been done, but its not necessary.

a Brembo, Stoptech or SLK55 AMG BBK will do the job.

plus, the rotors are super heavy.

Glad to hear it's been done. I already own the SL55 brakes so the other options aren't as palatable. I'm not tossing this car into turns so the unsprung weight is less of an issue to me than it is to others. Funny you mention "necessary" we all should have our heads checked if that is the basis for how us gearheads make decisions-starting with me for adding another 200-225 hp to a 362 hp C55-hehe!

Nonetheless I realize it is a bit more brake torque than is "necessary" but to counter that I'll just pick some pads that aren't as sticky.

Thanks,

Maier

you'll need to modify the knuckles to fit.

just a side note, would you not need a bigger master cylinder. those brakes are not a direct bolt on item on the C class. and i'm like pretty sure that u will need to change the master cylinder in ur car before those brakes will be properly effective on your car. that is one of the reason i went with the CLK63 brake set up or better know as the SLK 55 [030] package brakes.
if i were u i would really search around to make sure about the master cylinder because if u do need that. that will turn out to be a big big job. and from the sounds of it you are only thinking about doing the front brakes not the rear? that may through the car off because ur brake power ratio will be way, way off.
