C55 Front End

C55 Front End
Quick question: Is the front end of the C55 longer than that of the C32? Met a new AMG friend in the neighborhood (never knew he existed,... he pulled over to introduce himself when he saw me hosing off the road grim). We were comparing our two cars and I could swear that his nose looked a little more pronounced. I mean it would make sense,... you have an extra cylinder to make room for. Neither of us knew for sure,... we just stood their scratching our heads!
Just curious!

Good,... now I know I'm not going crazy! The 55 is nice guys. Doesn't seem to be any faster, just beefier in a strange kinda way! The exhaust note is way different,.... well of course! But after taking a wild ride in his front passenger seat, I'd say the 55 and the 32 are pretty evenly matched. I think mines handles a little better though. But the butt and back burrying torque of the 55 seems more pronounced and you ain't gotta wait for a S/C to kick in. Wonder why they 86'd the S/C'd 3.2 in favor of the naturally breathing 5.5? Having a S/C in the mix to me adds to the 'fun' factor!
I can't remember the last time a neigbor pulled over to introduce themselves after realizing that we both owned a Durango. I'm beginning to grasp the meaning of being a member of the AMG klan. Nice feeling! Merc's are everywhere, but AMGs are rare in my area! I do see a lot of faux AMG's though,... but if you know how to focus your gaze, you can spot them easily!

Glad that the club is going well for you. I have a local buddy too and I cant wait to go to the track with him.
They did away with the SC because of the heat-soak issues and because they are relitivley more expensive to maintain (less things to break).

it's not that they had to change it, but the trend/goal for AMGs are releasing limited production numbers and once that's achieved they usually give it some updates. i.e. w210 E50-E55, w202 C36-43, w203 C32-C55, w211 E55-E63.
Of course all the updated version will/was be better than the one they replaced.

A while back someone here was in the process of trying to make a replica C55 grille for their C32. I remember reading they were about to begin making molds. Has anyone heard how it went? Did it prove too difficult.

Also, what about the flat hood ornament?
I remember reading in one of these threads that the hot-rod mercs are recognized by the star being embedded in the grill instead of being perched upright on the hood. The luxury trim mercs would continue to have their star perched on the hood.
