What gear am I in?
So my girlfriend got herself a 2007 GTI (after her Impreza got totaled). The GTI comes with the DSG transmission, which I feel works really well.
The best thing however, is the fact that the instrument cluster shows the gear that you are in all the time.
I have read on the E amg section that some of their cars do show which gear you are in.
Is their a way to have it displayed in my C55?

Only in M mode. In S or C, the closest you can come is to see what gear you were in. When you hit the downshift button, the transmission goes down one gear from where you were and stays there, and that's what's displayed on the cluster. Of course, if you would overrev, it doesn't do anything.
You have to figure it out from revs, always a challenge with an automatic.

PS. The downshift behavior is why you can downshift in fifth and wind up in any gear from 1 to 5. It's confounding until you realize that it locks to the gear below the one you're in, unless it can't go there. It makes a lot of sense, though, once you get used to it.
