C-32 Shift-Knob?
With a plastic wedge device and using a soft cloth, gently pry the base upwards. There are about 4 or 6 notches (tabs) along the sides and one in the front and one in the back. Slowly pull up on the entire assembly at once, but not too high up, because there is a wire connection that you don't want to pull off. Once the base is loose, you will see that wire connection, and you can disconnect it from the white junction box on the base. Disconnect it, so that later you can pull the whole thing straight up.
Underneath the boot, there is a small plastic twist knob that holds the shift knob. Turn that 1/2 twist, and it should fall freely. Then from above, twist the shift knob and pull upward. It's kinda tricky and doesn't seem to give, but pull hard. You may have to twist some of the other small plastic rings inside the leather boot. Once it all comes apart, you can see how it all works and fits together. Swapping out the boot and replacing is much easier and just a matter of doing everything in reverse order.
Piece of cake.
