how much weight is good in your trunk?
i was just curious to those who drive their C32's and C55's or E55's how much weight you put in your trunk to help with traction? i live in the South Western Ohio (dayton) and we are getting probably 5inches... and i went to the gym at 5am and nothing but tire spin... and about 10mph driving (probably stupid, but i had this problem last year as wheel). thought i was the tires... got Michellen's for this winter... NO difference... figured now i dont have enought weight in the back...

I cary a lot of junk in my trunk which accounts for aprox 100lbs, does not change much , but yesterday and again this morning I tried driving w/ ESP Off
just to start moving and than switch it back on. Makes huge difference in terms of getting fairly quickly from stoplight.

well hi... i wish i could put my C32 away for the winter... can't... i own a evo 8 thats has way too many mods... and its mainly a show piece now. and i own my wifes Ion (which i bought for gas savings for the drive to work) but she is the great drive she is... totaled her Honda Accord. so still waiting on the insurance to finalize the calm... so im S.O.L.
i do the esp thing as well but F**k still im going to have to replace my rear tires b/c of the wheel spin. i just got my current ones, too...

First, I have done the "spare-tire-un-delete" modification, so I'm carrying about 40 lbs of wheel/tire that are not ordinarily there. Sometimes I'll toss in my milk-crate-workout-weights which total about 55lbs. I'm hesitant to carry too much because it can cause damage if the weight slides around the back.
For this AM's snow, I kept the C32 in the garage and took the Audi TT to work!

Comes to mind I had one time 8 truck batteries ( 60lbs aech) in my trunk which accounts for 480lbs together. So I can say you can safely put around 200-250 lbs extra weight - no problem. The only issue you may have is rubbing rear tires or if you go to extreme like i did you almost could pop wheelies= no traction on front end-sucks too...

I put one 70lbs sand bag on each rear axle via the trunk and at least one sideways at opening of trunk and it helps the rear Traction alot!

0 weight. adding weight is counter productive. fix your traction problems correctly by increasing contact patch or mu of rubber. find a 9" rim at 43 mm ET and squeeze a 285/30 -18 on.

ummmm.....please please tell me that none of you who are adding sand bags were also folks that paid huge $$$ for various carbon fiber acoutriments in an effort to save a few ounces..........

Unfortunately both of our cars are rear wheel drive, so when it snows we just let them sleep in the garage and take the BMW (Bus, Metro, Walk) to work.
It's not my driving or traction I'm worried about...it's the folks that don't take care on the road that keeps my car in the garage.

Isn't this thread about adding traction IN THE SNOW? If not, then I agree. But if we are talking about snow traction, then weight will help to a point, and a 285mm tire section width is not the answer!

In the summer no but in the winter snow yes I have 3 70lbs sand bags 1 over each rear axle thru the trunk and 1 laid at the opening of the trunk and it helps alot! I would still even if I had a LSD. keep in mind the car is heavier in the front so the sand bags help proportion it and at the same time help by adding more weight over the rear drive wheels..

i never had a problem driving in upstate new york with all season tires which are 235/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear. Went thru a couple snow storms. Start in second gear.

0 pounds and the car drives fine with Blizzak LM-22s in the stock size. Of course when I let my wife drive the car for a week, there's always about 40 pounds of junk back there which helps even more

just go to tirerack.com and grab some snows and you should be fine... if your still having trouble go to home depot and grab some sand bags but the snow tires should be good enuff just be easy on the gas a little bit
