Changing Springs

Hi all, I am planning to purchase a set of springs for my C. I just have a few questions to ask you experts.

1.) H&R springs seems to be very popular. At least the set I had on my Boxster was not bad. Anyway, is it competition springs (is that what it's called)? The ones w/ multiple levels of stiffness depending on the level of vehicle leaning while turning, etc.

2.) Are there any other companies making quality springs for C32?

3.) What's the difficulty level of installing springs? Quite honestly, I have never touched this part of the car before. I have just observed before, as the technician were doing my Box. It looked somewhat difficult (in terms of the equipment) for me to do it myselfs. Those of you who have done this before, do you guys have any good suggestions?

Thanks a lot guys...
Enlighten the peasant, and keep the C32 well driven.

1) its called a PROGRESSIVE spring

2) EIbach makes them for the C240/320...don't know abou the C32. They offer a more comfortable ride versus the H&R and ARE progressive...I don't think the H&R are progressive.

3) no clue on installs - except a spring compressor in required.

You may want to contact the moderator Mach430. I am quite certain that he can discuss the options available to you.

As for the installation, unless you have the proper equipment and have experience with suspension systems, I would suggest that you let an expert do the install.

I just installed a set of Renntech springs for about a month now. I have to say I am very impressed. Maybe you can consider this as an alternative.

I believe I read somewhere that H&R has come out with spring that is specifically for C32. Someone even posted the part #. But I forgot where did I read the post, this board or the other one. I'll try to search em.

Edit: Found the post, actually I'm feeling pretty stupid . Anyway, here's the link https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=21411

H&R springs ARE progressive. A linear spring would not be ideal for street use. I would recommend either H&R springs with your stock shocks, or if you really want to increase the handling (not to mention be able to custom adjust the ride height) the H&R coilovers.

As promised, I asked H&R about a seperate spring for the C32 after SEMA. The catalog shows it as a C32 spring for the w209. Obviously there is something wrong here, but we are yet to determine which. I should have an answer within a couple days. Personally, I think that it would be for the w209 CLK rather than a seperate spring for the C32.

Vadim is now using H&R Coilovers with our sway bars and we are all very satisified with the results. He may attend the track lesson this Thursday, so if any of you are interested in joining, you MAY see him or his car there.

To a trained professional, install is easy but time consuming. I would not recommend installing springs yourself if you do not feel comfortable with it. One mistake, and a spring can easily take your eye out. These springs have the power to shoot through a garage ceiling before fully decompressing. --Be Safe

Thanks

Ben

Ben, how great is the improvement of Vadim's C32 over stock C32?

Compared to stock M3, how's Vadim's C32 fare? Thx

It's tough to put it in words, HP and Torque curves are easy to show, but handling is somethign you have to feel for yourself. There really is a great improvement in handling, with minimal sacrifice in ride quality. If you'd like to come up some time, we can schedule a time to meet and drive Vadim's car. It's much easier to see first-hand how mods have helped changed the characteristics of the car.

Thank you all for the helpful information. I see that I cannot work on this myself. Anyway, for those of you who live in East Coast, CT, MA area to bo more specific, do you know of any reputible tunning shops? I really feel unsafe taking my car into the shop that does Hondas most of the time.

Consider Renntech springs, I have yet to hear a bad comment about them from my friends.
