Start Problem
Hi All,
Last week i got car battery changed due to the fact it died twice on me.I was thinking its probably because of cold weather in chicago as during the summers the car was fine. Today same thing happened, it died again. By dieing i mean car system says not enough voltage to start the car, however everything else works fine.
whats wrong???

What about your seat control modules? It's a known common issue where it drains your battery. Unplug the plugs under your front seats and jump start your car. Drive it around for a while and see what happens before you start replacing anything else. Good Luck!

i had exactly the same thing happen to my car and it was one of the seat modules. Instead of going into "sleep" mode after locking the car, it can remain on drawing about 1.2amps from the battery..........one dead battery in no time!
Hope that helps

The quick and easy fix is to unplug the seat. Underneath, in front. The large flat one I believe. Of course your seat won't move anymore, but at least the car will start.

Do you know which seat is drawing the power? Just to be safe, I would unplug both seats. When you look under the seat, unplug the biggest plug which is in the middle and unplug the plug to it's immidiate right (if you're unsure, either unplug all the plugs or unplug one and try to move the seat. If the seat is still moving unplug the next one until seat won't move)

There was also a TSB stating that some models may experience an "electronic leak" due to improper circuit routing, which causes the battery to get drained like that. So I would still make the dealer run a full electronics diagnostics on the car

I'm waiting on the Chicago Roadside guy to come out and give me a jump right now.
When he was here last week for the same reason he said there's actually a third control module for the sunroof that goes bad as well. I guess replacing all three of them runs about $1900, at least according to him. We'll find out when I take it in on Monday.
I doubt that you've been messing with the sunroof too much these past few days though, so I'd be pretty sure it's the seat. I'm going to disconnect mine after he gets it running again.
Interesting how a couple of threads have been started about this in the past few days. Seems there may have been a shelf life to the modules in 2002's?

Question: do I invest the time to take to the dealership to review (I expect the standard "we can't repeat the problem").
Thanks in advance.
