Even if you just do intake, exhaust and software on the M5 I bet it will cost you $4-5K and you will not get huge gains. Dump that into the C32 and you will have one fast car.

Here is just a reference of what I did to my 540 that woke it up a bit:

Exhaust $1,000
Software - $500.00
M5 Rear Diff $2,500.00
M5 Sway Bars I forgot the cost.

Now right there I have over $4K just into a 540 and those mods did not make the car night and day. I mean the software and diff really woke it up but nothing like if you went FI.

Plus up front you are going to spend at least another $10K for the M5 to get the same year and miles. Like I said if money was no object I would get the M5 just because again I like the stick and V8. Now this time around I wanted a car I could get some real HP gains for not a ton of money and the C32 was the answer to that.

What ever you do do not get a car like either of these without a maintance records.

Let us know what you decide after you drive both. Oh the MB will be much nicer inside and I think it looks a bit more up to date than the M5.

how hard is it to get 400bhp out of the merc?

would a pully and a tune do it ?

Then again , dinan does a 450bhp hop up for the M5 too .. that is apparently a little monster!

i actually came to my senses , having the m5 out of motorplan is a bad idea ..

i dont even want to think of it when the engine goes boom , for one reason or another.

i can however find the C32 under motorplan from mb.

One good thing is that 2003 M5's are losing value quickly due to them coming off of factory warranty. Bad thing is that 2003 M5's are losing value quickly due to them coming off of factory warranty.

I guess I'm a bit puzzled when you say you can get a 2003 M5 for less than a C32. I thought low mileage M5's were going between 35-43K.

i somehow think that in south africa , cars hold value much different to in the states .

I would pay around $30-40k for a very neat c32 over here

With E55 and CL600 prices tanking, you might be looking at the wrong platform.

[QUOTE=stevh0;2595911]Why do you drive a c32 ?

Im trying to decide between either the 03 m5 or the c32.

performance wise theres not much difference between the two, im almost sure stock on stock the m5 would be a little bit quicker but im not in it for speed or power although its a bonus, i need a car i can live with on a day to day basis , something i can get in a drive.

For me it was easy. I came from a 2001 M roadster and a 2002 M3, both were fun toys, but worthless for everyday driving and a Family.

I enjoy the bottom end torque of the C32, ie Blower, WAY more than either of the M's could EVER duplicate. The convience of 4 doors, and of course family matters.

The M5, if your single and don't live in the city might be the choice here, if you like to work to drive, meaning rougher ride, clucth around town, etc, etc.

What was the big selling point for me was the interior. The BMW's left me cold, IE no gadgets, or fun while you drive. The steering wheel on the AMG's is alot of fun when your board or just want to play.

DID I MENTION BOTTOM END TORQUE.

Drive both, and pick for yourself, both are fun cars with different personalities. For me its AMG from now on, and I don't even bother with BMW's anymore. And oh yeah, look at a E55 if you can swing 45k, that blows them both away

See yeah

Just depends on your needs. You can't go wrong with either car. Good luck!!
