Sad - Can't beat a 993 Targa

Went down the highway today side by side with a 993 Targa, ~40mph, both floored the car, can't get away till 100mph - VERY SAD.

Its called gearing. The 911 has 6 close ratio gears and the C32 has 5 gears. My vett only has 4, really 3 because 4th is overdrive. You need a lot of horse power to over come better gearing. Thank god my vette has a 4000 stall conveter and 3.73 rear axle gear or the 500 plus horse would be worthless.

?? 993 targa is a turd. maybe it had a SC kit or something on it because they're dogs. My c55 walks away from my 996 even with all the mods on it, and my 993tt doesnt seem that much faster than the 55. at 400/400

Buy a 993 targa. Until something else beats you. Then buy that. And so on.

With some mods I'm positive you will keep up if not beat one. But I have to say, that's one sweet Porsche.

Uh, you should spank it stock without a problem. It was possibly not stock. I don't see why anyone likes that car but that's personal preference, it's the womans Porsche before there were boxters... and you KNOW I'm right if you remember when they were popular because they aren't that hot performance wise... much like a c4 but at least the c4 car be driven in the snow

The "fishbowl" 993s won't be around for much longer because they notoriously leak between the glass panels and are not really preferred for the track - and people care about them as much as the 996s. The 3.6's glory is right at 40mph in 3rd gear, he was probably right above 3K RPM which is where all the torque begins to sing on that car - which makes it awesome at the track, especially coming out of turns. Combining that with the light weight and balance of the car make it easy to drive fast around turns (if you would even begin to know how to drive one). In straight line performance your 32 wouldn't or shouldn't have a problem at all. Keep in mind Porsche cars were not designed for the drag strip.

Thank you for all the sharings! All of the sudden, this thread gained some popularity.

I think I have been driving too mild lately as the crank pulley is due for a replacement. Interestingly, my car has been running side by side with my buddy's 996 GT3 with Gemballa Exhaust and lightened flywheel. Can't think of what's inside that Targa.

Just recalled that I was on the 3rd of the auto tranny when I floored, should have shifted to 2nd. I think the results would have been different.

He still would have probably put a foot in your a-- because these automatics shift faster than you can. Everyone takes a whippin from time to time, don't worry about it.

Looks like you are in HK. I as just wondering if you had accidentally tangled with my pals silver 993. It looks stock, narrow body, but under that tail there lies a massive supercharger and even larger intercooler. They are not done dynoing the car, but an improptu race with the shop owners 600 HP 930 left it (the 930) in the dust.

No way he tangled with that. He'd be in the hospital slurping apple sauce through a straw right now if he tried to take that on.

My guess is it was a stock targa that just got the drop on him and whipped his tail. Simple as that.

Could have had the EVOMS supercharger kit. Makes it faster than a turbo-
