Do It Yourself ECU

Has anyone heard anything about a flash kit that you can purchase with all the maps for our C32's. How feasible would it be, assuming you knew how to tune yourself, to purchase this. It would be nice to tune and go back to stock at any time.
Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Mark

Is this the 'bay flash kit?

Just having the ability to flash the ECU doesn't mean you can tune it.

If it is the one I'm looking at it then you just get the usual generic maps these places make.

Unless you have extensive documentation and the software to change the maps, tables & parameters then you would spend the rest of your life and a bucket load of dyno time finding them.

I've done this on Fords & Hondas and it is a minefield unless you have the correct doco.

I was talking with a guy from the w211 forum about us purchasing a computer device and tool that can be used to Tune during dyno but he nor I could raise enough interest...

What about something like this?

i'm sure a tuner will have the correct tuning software to custom tune your car.

Our the mercedes ecu's unlocked? if they are i'm assuming they can be reflashed with a custom tune. I'd would rather have a custom tune on a dyno rather then sending it out.

From what I have read, the process seems pretty easy. You have some type of flash device. You load the flash device with the proper MAP via a USB port and load it thru your OBD. Now the big thing is the Mapping. I know there are DVD's with different MAP's for our cars. Im curious to know why nobody has done this, except for the major ECU tuner guys Renntech, Powerchip etc?

Some people are scared and thus usually use the Reputable Tuner instead...also to do a Dyno-type tune using any devise can become quite expansive since being mounted on a dyno will mean its best to rent it costing several hundreds...and if you don't know what you are doing alot of bad can happen. Usually most members prefer to see how things worked out first with someone else flipping the cost...
