Jack - If you want to bring it over to this area, my friend owns a shop on River rd. AJ Auto is the name of the place.
Secondly, I was think that if it was the tranny or trq converter, that you should buy another motor / tranny from LKQ online for $3k.
That would include the trq converter.
If you wanted to split it up, I would be willing to pay half for certain parts.

If you're downtown there's a good place called "Lee's Foreign Car Service" at 727 S. Jefferson. Just outside of the loop. The number is 312-663-0823.
He's reasonable on his prices and Benz is his specialty.

I am sure those are fine places but I would not go to anyone but Axel's Automotive in Lake Bluff. You can probably PM Nknauz. I am not sure how often he checks PM's though. Axel and Nick (nknauz) are related to the Knauzes (who own the dealer in Lake Bluff) but they branched out on their own from the dealer. I think Axel was the first mechanic ever at Knauz and was the one who got Knauz their Renntech, etc. relationships (they don't just give those contracts to any Benz dealer).

I would not be taking this to someone who doesn't have real experience with these cars (meaning Benz). Just because a guy has some Benzes on his lot doesn't mean he knows what he is doing. When a guy was a top mechanic at a Benz dealer, that does it for me.
