C55 vs. C32 AMG

Hey guys, i wanted to ask all of you which car between the two would be overall faster..

C55 AMG: 5.5-liter V8. 362hp, 376ft.-lbs. of torque at 4000rpms.
Weight: 3582

C32 AMG: 3.2 liters. 260 kW/349 hp and generates 332 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm.
Weight: 3400

So the price difference is obviously a change, and the fact that the C55 has 7 gears instead of 6. However, the C32 is lighter. The C55 obviously has a little more hp/torque however, 1/4 mile numbers from all different forums show about the same variance in time.

I was wondering from you guys what you thought is the faster car and if it is worth the extra money to purchase the C55AMG and Why.

a quarter mile at a time
C55 retained the old 5-speed and never got the 7G-Tronic. Good luck on getting a straight answer on this one. IMO, driver's race.

I've owned and driven a C32 for 4 years and now have a C55. Stock for stock the C55 is faster. I have no doubt about this..........

The C55 does not have the 7 gear transmission....

If you really like to mod then get the C32......

In my opinion the upgrade was worth it. My C32 was awesome but I think AMG basically took things that the C32 was criticized for (Interior, handling, stock rims) and created the C55.........

Don't be surprised by 50 or so STFF responses.

To answer the question, if you're looking for the faster car, I'd go with the C32. It's cheaper--use the extra money to modify it to make it faster than most C55's.

The C55 is newer, I think the interior is a bit nicer--and the NA V8 is less problematic than the S-charged V6. Plus, with the 55, you're going to get some factory warranty, if you're into that kind of thing.

haha

this one never gets settled, but from all the research i did before picking up my c32, all the magazines have them pretty much equal in speed, although a few magazines have the c32 down as faster. in the end it comes to whether u want to spend more money for v8 sounds and a better looking (more aggresive at least) exterior, as well as a better interior. dont let speed be the deciding factor, they are the same car in terms of that, and anyways, everyone will agree that the c32 is limitless in the amount of aftermarket tuning you can do to it.

c55-better looks, sound, and interior,----possibly still active warranty
c32-value.....i would suggest dishing out slightly more if u can find one with low miles-personally thats what sold me on my c32.

good luck bro

According to the MBUSA site, a 2004 C32 and a 2005 C55 have the same exact 0-60 times of 4.9 seconds.

Thank you guys for the comments and posts... i had a question a couple of you guys mentioned... u said that the C32 is limitless in terms of modding... So does that mean that the C55 isn't?

I think the term "limitless" in terms of modding is a stretch. This car (C32) is very expensive to mod, and some people who have done it have encountered problems. I recommend researching the Board on that point.

As to acceleration, they're very close as people are saying. I think a V-8 is going to naturally sound better than a blown six but the actual performance difference between a stock C32 and stock C55 would be very small. But as with anything, the newer the car, the better it will be in terms of subtle improvements.

i just picked up a 06 c55 yesterday after going back and forth with the that same dilemma, but that was primarily because i always loved the front end of the clk and the back of the c. The quad exhaust doesn't hurt either haha

in the end after driving both of them extensively before i made a decision you can't go wrong with either.

Yes, you can still mod the C55 - Headers, Sport Cats, crank pulley, ECU, and, if you're brave enough and have the means - a supercharger!

K so, the C32 can also have all that done to it as well... so they are the same when it comes to modding?

Also, this may be a pitiful question.. but the M3 obviously has better handeling than the C55 amg. Are there any suspension/axle modifications to help it compete against the M3 on track?

The C32 is cheaper to mod because it is forced induction (Supercharged in this case).

Sorry, I think the C55 matches the E46M3 when it comes to handling. Drive one and you will see...

C32
C55 has a slightly different interior and the meters look different. The front looks more aggressive too.

There are less than 10 C55 in my country and I have not driven one yet. I had my C32 for almost a year and I was so happy modding it.

C32 is only expensive to mod if you don't shop around to get better pricing..LET has many package deals all around 3k or less even their TT is gonna be cheap compared to SCing a C55..

Buy used parts and even cheaper but good luck finding them they go very quickly...

Well when we do the private drag race session I welcome a stock C55 to come maybe if Jacek is up and running that could be a good stock for stock drag race and I am willing to go up against a modded one in a friendly drag race...
