Question 185mm pulley upgrade on a Stage II (Powerchip)C32 - do I need new ECU tune?

Sorry if this is too "noob", but I am not having much luck searching for the answer.

I own m3_eaters / HAHA BYE's C32, and I am considering moving to a LET 185mm Pulley to see if I can get even more out of it

What are your opinions / experiences with changing the pulley size on a very nice pre-existing set up & ECU flash?

Will the Stage II powerchip ECU flash (map?) work "ok" with the larger LET Pulley -or- will I need a different ECU flash?

I read on another post that Powerchip will not "finetune" for further mods ( big mods like cams-but says nothing about Pulley changes), but Kleeman will for free if you purchase their services. The future free tweaking would be great!

Here is the link to the Powerchip / Kleeman comment:

Here are the detailed specs on the car (short version in my sig below)
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...216&highlight=

We run 92 Octane here in Wa.

I have a PM in to m3_eater and a voicemail with Jerry at LET, but I would like to hear from others as well!

Will I be just fine with the Powerchip ECU, or should I send it off to Kleeman, or somewhere else?

Please feel free to chime in with ANY opinions or help!

Thanks!

Scott

CALL LET NOW.

Seriously, you should be fine. Let Jerry or Erick answer this one, as it is their product. They are both EXTREMELY sharp on our toys.

See yeah

They should be able to give you the right answer but see if PowerChip will also reflash for free or at a discount. In my opinion since you are increasing boost again a reflash will be needed to compensate and to reach maximum performance from the new larger pulley...but then again its only my opinion

P.S You mentioned where you live they use 92 octane so you should findout if the previous owners had the flash done based on that gas octane also. Cause if not then you can most likely be missing out HP/TQ if the flash was done on another octane level...

You also mention these in your SIG Magnecor 8mm wires
Denso Iridium IK16 Plugs...well I think you need to run colder Denso iridium plugs like the IK20/22. Check to see if your Magnecor wires are the kv85 8.5mm wires. If you make any of these changes then do so prior to any re-flash if required. Remember to drive car with the changes for about a week for the ECU to learn them prior to re-flash..if required.

Man, couldnt have said it better. I would imagine that a reflash is in order as well.

One of the LET guys should be on shortly to acknowledge.

Jerry at LET called me this afternoon and answered the questions.

1. ECU Flash - highly recommended, but not absolutely, 100% needed for safe function and operation with a Stage II C32.

LET 185mm pulley + LET ECU tune = maximum performance with LET engineered products. Common sense answer...they know the right setup for their pulley.

2. Jerry said that my (m3_eaters) car is at 17.5psi boost with the current set up, but will move up to 22psi boost with the 185mm pulley and tune.
Big increase in low end & high end performance.

3. This car is scary smooth fast...for me at least - surely not for you hard core racers out there. Dropping the pedal at 85-95mph highway cruise feels almost like WFO at 35mph. It just sounds different.

85 -100, 110, 125, 130mph...and it just keeps pulling. I have not ran it any faster than that, but it would be interesting to see where it pegs out at.

m3_eater feels it is an "honest 180/190 mph" car now.

I cant wait to see what this little bugger does after the 185mm pulley, tune, heat exchanger, phenolic spacers, and Johnson intercooler pump.

Wonder if it could crack 200 by a splinter or two after the new goodies are in?

I have no idea, and will not find out any time soon... unless I find a salt flat and an ejectio seat for rent here in Washington.

Let me know if you want any more updates or info - I would be happy to pass it along.

Scott

Thanks for the heads up on the plug matter. I forgot about that, someone else mentioned it as well in my first post.

I have not pulled any of the plugs or even really looked at the plug wires closely. Are their markings on the wires that will identify them?

I know nothing about the plug ratings...need to read up on them.

Is it a well know fact that the "hotter" plugs installed in my car will / could cause damage, or problems for the wires?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I honestly do not know ....this is a pretty steep learning curve.

I was fortunate to come across a car that someone else took all the time to do the homework and question asking....I have A LOT of catching up to do!!!

I am kind of starting to feel embarrassed about the sig line - I can take no credit for the car at this point...maybe a little after the LET stuff goes in, but not much

Well since your car has alot of heat producing stuff on it the colder plugs are a plus..ask Erick from LET cause he has or tried the IK22...as for the wires well I know they are red and I think they show 8.5mm somewhere..
Based off what your car has already I would basicallly do that with the 185mm pulley.
