ESP is off and still comes on under hard acceleration

Anyone know why the ESP comes on under hard acceleration even after I turn the switch OFF??? I installed the Code III air intake and with the pulley, it pulls like a monster BUT between first and second the ESP triangle comes on and then again from 2-3???

i believe even when its off, its still kinda on. I think you have to put the car into dyno mode to completely turn off the esp.

because, even though you hit the "ESP OFF" button, it is not fully off, traction control will still come on with wheel spin.

gears have no relevance to esp, it just comes in when the computer detects a loss of traction. the esp off just allows little more loss of traction before the esp comes in.

Try putting it in Dyno Mode and then please report back as to what happens.
Are the wheels still spinning in 3rd?

Thanks!

Read my thread, last one on DYNO mode. Yes it will COMPLETELY remove the ESP, but at a cost. No ABS, ESP, or Air bags. In my experience, on a road course, it is WORTHLESS. Many, and I do mean many E55 owners DO NOT use it for dragging either. When you turn it into Dyno mode, you will have MASSIVE one wheel spin. Give it a try on a empty road, you WON'T like it my friend.

See yeah

PS: Yes even with ESP off, it is still lurking in the background, aka not FULLY off.

I feel so bad for you. You can't stop the the tires from spinning through 3rd gear in your c-class.

This car is so unassuming...I love it.

Gotta agree with that one. When I changed from my old P-Zero's to my new Bridgestone Pole Positions I must have lost 50hp.... or gained a heck of alot more traction. Wheelspin dropped dramitically.

FYI, it was dry, dry roads, dry tires. Newer Sport Pilots (less than 8 K miles) , ESP OFF, third gear, in manual, AC off, 3/4 tank of gas, Sprintbooster

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if your Michelins have 8K, and are over 1 year old, THEIR DONE! I have no idea why, but ALL michelins get hard as BRICKS over a winter, aka Plastasize. Atleast ALL that I have ever owned.

Again, that's why I have always said "Friends don't let friends buy Michelins"

In reference to what you're saying, it sounds like you're just seeing the triangle warning light flashing. This doesn't mean that esp is backing off the throttle or applying the brakes, the flashing just means that there is a difference in wheel speeds noticed.

When you turn esp off via the "esp off" switch, the triangle should stay lit and flash when wheel speeds differ, abs is still active, and esp sort of "lightens up" a bit. Esp can still intervene but only under more severe conditions. Like metioned before, if you want to destroy your tires or really test your driving skills Dyno Mode is the way to go!

My SRT6 is doing the same thing really bad(code 3 everything). I even pulled fuses 17-18 and it still does it just as bad. Oh, and this is with the super sticky P-Zero Cor. made for track use only 285/35-19s. It should hook much better at the track.

Based on my experience, it does not turn completely 100% off.
I dynoed my car once and I think there was a little misalignment on the rear, and the rear brakes engaged when I was on the third gear. The car was in dyno mode and all of the ESP, ABS and BAS were off. The whole room smelled like burnt rubber.

You sure it was your car's brakes? When I had mine dyno'd, after enough runs the shop smelled like burnt rubber too - I asked the dyno operator what the smell was, concerned it might be something from my car (brakes, tires, who knows) - he said the smell was from the brakes inside the dynojet roller.

Some smokes came out of my rear wheels too. The guy in front of me was fine, the guy after me was also fine.

yes

On certain road conditions I can get wiggy at 30 MPH by dropping the hammer with the ESP off. 5K miles on the car and the tires.

Oh...and every morning when I pull out of my neighborhood there is a wet spot I have to roll through which puts water on about 1/4 of my tires. Then I have to gun it a little to get on the road. ESP hoses me EVERY time, so I just turn it off. The wheels spin (hop) for 2 or 3 rounds, burn off the water and then grab and go. This is not a throttle down situation, just about 1/2 throttle.

With ESP on, it cuts the throttle and I get run over by an 80 MPH 18 wheeler. Well not really, but at least I have to pull some leather out of my butt cheeks.
