We need C55 modified Air Tubes

I think modified air tubes with wider, bigger mouthS/openings would be a great mod at a low price. The stock tube openings are pathetic! and made of flimsy cheap plastic so modified ones can be made of the same material and keep costs to a minimum. All that's needed is a mold to be made and a shop can then stamp out a bunch of them with probably 90% profit after amortizing the tooling and mold development costs. No need for carbon fiber.

I see people spending tons on air box and throttle body mods but what good is it when the air can't even enter properly?

If somebody can figure this out, I think there would be a huge demand starting with me. I know VRP makes the CF Python tubes but they don't fit a C55, C32, CLK and SLKs.

Vadim, I will give you a call about this.

I have been thinking about this for some time, I was looking for a local place that can probably mold it in to c/f but if you can talk to Vadim maybe he can do something similar.

Big Mouth air tubes

Looks like Vadim is looking into it. A bigger and wider air scoop/mouth to catch the air from the front grill will do wonders at a very low cost.

I think this mod might be even cheaper than Code 3's intake mod but draw cold outside air instead of engine bay air.

the front end on these cars are so tight, theres not much room for anything. i was looking at scoops for brake ducting etc....but just couldnt find a way to make something work. one of the biggest restrictions is where they transition from the scoop in the front, back into the tubes. they are almost completely closed off. Dr Gas makes a nice piece of oval tubing that transitions into a 3" round tube. maybe using the oval end facing forward through the core support as the inlet, and then 3" tubing straight back to the boxes....

This was something I asked VRP about when he was making them for the E55, but he didn't really seem interested in making them and said the cost would be to high. Anyway this is something I really want especially in CF, but if you only make larger plastic ones I'm still interested, but please consider making them in CF they will look so amazing with my renntech airbox.

I think this would be a great idea I would buy them even if they were plastic like they are now. make them fatter and have less corrigation Renntech makes C/F ones for there airboxes just not the C55 airbox

So basically if you had something like the Needswings intake but ran that 3" pipe all the way to the grill with a larger scoop? (rather than ending near the grill) I've been looking at the intake on mine (C32) and thinking something like that would be great. Those stock intake pipes are not large by any means...

It shouldn't be too hard to find a person to make what you want...

I have made a few custom parts for my own projects and my father and I have figured out ways to "Blow Mold" carbon fiber tubes out of my molds...

Just have to do it!

I know it said prototype....so I will just state the obvious...I hope it will not be made of metal (especially a corrosive metal) to gain heat soak...

Looks like fun!

I like how the time was taken to even draw in all the lines for the fins. And not even in a sloppy manner but nice and clean. Way more patience than I have just for a prototype shell.

thats what i was thinking, just dont have the resources to do it. unfortunately, the c55 front is even tighter than that, and i dont think it would fit.

My dad and I like making nice parts...

Foamcore is a great way to mock things up fast and find out what you are trying to acheive before you cut and machine (or weld) metal - or cast resin parts...I like foamcore very much!

Thanks - But this thread is about the pipes...I hope you C55 owners can get someone to make you some nice parts...

Any progress on getting CF intake tubes made for the C55?

I have a set of really expensive CF tubes from VRP for the E55 that do not fit on the C55. Was thinking of modifying them but am reluctant to do so.

Here are some pics of the dual 3" intakes. They just need to be polished up.

Thoughts?

you have the right idea with the dual cai. needswings has had these for a while now as had eurocharged. you need to get them in front of the radiator as the engine heat will pull power from the tubes. i also have ss tubes and they were reading 150+ on temps after a small run. go to any performance staore and get some black exhuast wrap. now i can lay my hands on them and temps are in the 70's with the cold air from the front of the car
