Question Anyone place fans on their heat exchangers?

Coming from turbos (yeah I understand the differences), I mounted a high flow fan on the intercooler to cool down the air and made a huge difference on hot days.

I was wondering if the same could be done to cool down the coolant in the HE? I know ones air and ones coolant but the goal is to cool the coolant as air passes through the HE right?

It was just something I was thinking about the other day and didn't know if anyone thought about this.

I'll check replies in the morning or after work, just worked 15 hours and tired.....

It’s been done, albeit on an SRT-6. http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/...ad.php?t=21007

The idea has merit, as his instrumented testing showed that it was indeed effective at reducing IAT.

no room for fans on the C32, the rad, condensor and heat exchanger are all up against each other ( if you have the thicker upgraded H/E) otherwise theres so little room with the stocker, vibrations could cause a leak in the core when the fan shroud rubs against it. This happened to my brothers fluidyne rad on a 3000GT VR4 conv, just blew up the other day!

I took it a step further with my SRT6. Added a 20x10 transmission cooler in line with the factory heat exchanger and two 450CFM 7.5" SPAL fans. Also Isolated the IC system using a one gallon fuel cell. Did some datatlogging the other weekend. Ambient temps were in the low 90's, intake temps stayed around 10 degrees above ambient with the fans and johnson pump running. I haven't gotten the chance to see how much some ice in the tank will drop the IAT. BTW I have the ASP pulley set now as well. Here's a couple pics of when I was mocking up things. I'll have to get some pics of the finished product.

Very clean looking install there! Well done! I think y'all have a little more clearance up front on the SRT-6, right?

I'd definitely be interested in seeing an in-detail writeup on your mod set-up along with some data-logging when you have the time.

Yeah on the Saabs I owned different people mounted in front pulling are to or behind the intercooler. Sounds like C32 has no room in front and I haven't gone to the garage to see how much room is on the other side. Those fans we used were less than an inch deep. I forget the cfm specs but they cranked.

Not quite as clean as I had it the first time, but I had to move/remove some things to fit the filter for my 3" intake. There is about 3 inches of space in between the frame and factory AC condenser. Enough to fit the cooler, the fans and still have an aprox 1/4" gap.

I don't know when I will get some datalogging in becasue my brand new laptop had to be sent back and I just bought a brand new 5.7 Tundra which I have been enjoying and looking at a few upgrades for it. Too many toys! Once I get around to it I'll try to post some numbers.
