V1 Remote Unit Placement
Guys--
I just hardwired my V1 last week and was trying to decide where to put the remote unit.
I did a search but didn't find anything easily located (and didn't want to go through the 50 V1 threads) so I thought you might have some ideas as to where to affix the unit for good visibility and ease of pressing the mute button.
Thanks!

'10 E63 Obsidiant Black; '06 R350 Alabaster White; 05 C55 Obsidiant Black (sold)
this is where i mount mine.
As for the muting button, I just press the main unit which I mounted on top of the rear view mirror.

My pop helped a lot with the getting the V1 hardwired--I did the remote unit placement.
First step was to wire the power from the fuse box in the trunk. Already lots of DIY's on this that are much better than I could hope to write up. Then ran wire up the drivers side to the fuse box area in the front. There's a lot of extra space in the fuse box in the front, so that's where the splicer to V1 main unit/remote unit went.
I put the main unit to the right of the rear view mirror--right below the headliner and just pushed the cord up under the headliner and down the pillar.
Then ran the cord out of the splicer from the fuse box area in front under the steering wheel (just had to remove 3 T20 torx screws) to the back of the center console. Removed the ashtray and pulled the V1 cord up into the ashtray area with a coathanger.
Then I drilled a hole in the back of the ashtray and strung the cord through the ashtray hole. Then just affixed the remote unit to the ashtray with velcro--that's it.
I used a DIY for the iPod by MikeSSw203 as instructions for removing the console panels that I needed.

New Unit 9Passport 9500 xi
Speaking of UNITS, I just got the NEW 9500XI from Escort. I am going to give it a try versus the 2 V-1s that I now have. It can be upgraded over the net for the software and "updated" as well for the speed cameras and stoplight cameras as well. I will give a full report once I have a chance to play with it a bit. It only comes in the BLUE and is a nice looking unit. I like the "plug and play" aspect of it since some guys are locking out their Passports and this one does it automatically after it sense 3 falses in the same area (you have to do that manually on the old ones).

Got my Passport 9500IX yesterday
Keeping them; I just had both upgraded Feb 2008 (one was broke due to bad solder joint and Mike V fixed it free!! He's a real class act, seriously!!)
I love the V-1 BUT for my Daily Drive in Chicagoland area I get too many falses even adjusting it (which Mike does not recommend) from the codes on his site. The 9500 ix falses a LOT less and NOW has the redlight/speed camera database that warns you of a "camera threat." Just got it yesterday at work and havent had a chance to play with it, BUT its identical to my old 9500 unit, except that it has a LOT MORE features!! I tried out the redlight warning feature last night and it warns way in advance with BOTh voice and visual alerts that theres a redlight camera ahead, really cool feature and saves the need to get a separate Cheetah or Navalaert and uses the same database (Trinity) and is upgradeable. The 9500IX is also upgradeable online which the V-1 is NOT (yet anyway).

So it sounds like having the V1 and the passport is the best of both worlds. I have been meaning to get a V-1 but they use laser around here so much I do not know if it is worth the money for one since there is no alarm for laser.

My bad that is correct it does alert for laser it is just to late by the time you hear it. I will have to check out this parking sensor and see what it does. I was going to do the jammers but they are big money.
There is an alarm for laser, you'll know it and it is quite distinctive, BUT once you hear it and its valid (it can be sunlight or tailights too), YOU're toast if he gets the front plate on a light car. Its merely a ticket indicator and not a laser warning. Its bend over time baby, I gotcha!!! Illinois State Police is using them on 290 and I 53 quite a bit now (motorcycle guys hiding in the shade). Check out Cheetah Parking Sensors for the latest parking sensor
that works with the laser (Guys of Lidar has discussed this quite a bit too). Having a front plate is bad enough, BUT if you've got that PLUS a light car (more reflective) you're a goner as far as laser. Now,. we've got the triple threat of laser, Radar and Redlight/speed cameras too. The new 9500ix covers all three (3) of these threats!! I personally think that the radar and the cameras are avoidable with a lil common sense, Laser is a whole different story unless you can Park Sensor your car so that you dont hit the front of the garage when you pull in. Everyone with a garage should have a park sensor so you don't damage that $10,000 front end and bumper. It even helps if you're in the city and trying to park that car. It 'll alert you to the distance that the car is near you.
