C55 Removed Resonator=possible TQ loss?
First of all, I've read all the threads about doing this -- the "No you won't lose any TQ/yes you will" debate etc. I've even removed the resonator when I had my C32 and everything was fine. Up until this point I never really believed it was possible to lose any TQ with simply removing the resonator until I had it removed on my C55 today and replaced it with a straight pipe. I swear it doesn't feel as peppy in the low rpms as before. It sounds better without a doubt. I will give it a week or two before I decide if I'm going to get it put back on. If there is a loss of TQ will it take the ECU a few days to adapt and compensate??

hooleyboy,
Your removal of the resonator might be the only reason you haven't broke into the 12s yet... Joking! Seriously, everything was done today and the weather/temp is the same. Like I said, I will give this a few weeks and see how I feel about it. Perhaps the ecu does sense a "difference" and has to adapt somehow. The resonator itself has a weird cutout inside of it as well as some perforation. I'll take some pics...

Here's a few pics of the C55 resonator. Its smaller and lighter than the one that was on my C32. It only about 10lbs. In the picture of the interior the perforation is evident and you can also see only what I can describe as a "cut-out" or trench that goes all around that I can stick my finger into. Interesting enough, this "cut-out" was not there on the resonator from my C32..

I got one sitting in my garage. As a matter of fact i should throw it out as i will never use it again. I feeel there is just no way that removing it hurts performance. Do a transmission reset. and drive like a mad man should sort it self out. and yes yes poke fun of my non 12 second car... I will be there soon enough. Its just so damn hot out here some times i think Mustangs can beat me.

Well, I dunno, perhaps it's partly paranoia I can attribute it to I'll do the ecu reset drive it like a mad man and see. It does sound good though...

I would say only you know your car best. If you think your feeling a bit of lag and it felt better with it on just put it back on. But the sound is killer. roll down the back windows and you can really hear it rumble.

If you "think" car is losing HP just put the resonator back on...
IMO and from my experience with other cars, just removing resonator will not cause any problems.
It's hard to tell it gains or lose hp by butt-o-meter...
