Suggestions for Extended Warranty?
Hey guys... I have an '05 C55 with ~35K on it, still under factory warranty.
two quick questions:
1) is it worth getting a new extended warranty now or waiting til this one dies (i need to check when this one expires, i believe i have just the factory warranty)?
2) which warranty provider do you recommend (MB or a trusted 3rd party)?
thanks for your help!

i dont think you need to have two warranties on it at the same time, i could be wrong. i would wait till the factory warranty is up and then get an extended warranty of some kind. i am getting a 3rd party warranty from mercury. i can take it to any MB dealership or certified mechanic and it includes towing and rental car. $50 deductible, 36 months or out to 85,000 miles whichever comes first - $1600. ask your insurance guy, they can answer any questions you have. compare what the MB warranty offers against a 3rd party. none of them are going to cover brake pads, oil changes, scheduled maintenance, or emission system work but the MB one could be a little better.

Before I bought a CPO car what I found was that Chrysler had the best terms and price. You could take it to a dealer and prices were very competitive. It was a throwback to the old DC days.

The only reason to get it now rather than right before you factory warranty runs out is price. I am sure in 6 months a year from now the same warranty will be more money. On my bimmer I waited the 10 months and then bought the warranty before the factory ran out and it had gone up $300. If you get the car serviced at the Benz dealer I would go with a warranty they will accept. Just check where you get your car serviced and find out what they wil take for extended warr's. If you go 3rd party REALLY do your homework on the company. Make sure the are backed up by another Co. I am not sure what the correct word is but if this Co you have the warranty with guys belly up they are backed by another company that will pick up teh contract. Otherwise you are SOL if they go under.

3d party warranty companies SUCK. Maybe not every one of them but every one I have ever seen. They make money by denying claims, just like an insurance company. The ONLY warranty I would get would be the MB starmark. Period.

I have the Mercury, Platinum after market warranty to 100k; bought it for $2,600 when I had 20k left on my OE warranty. It covers everything that is not explicitly excluded with no deductable (basically, no coverage on upholstery, wear items and that part of the emissions system required by federal law to be covered by the factory to 80k miles. Bought it early for price reasons -- aftermarket warranties cost more the more miles your car has on it when you buy it. Mecury seems to have a good reputation on this board. Just used it, it covered a $1,000 repair bill no problem and paid the mechanic directly with a credit card. My dealer wouldn't take the mercury warranty but my performance mechanic accepts it and many other members on this board have indicated that their MB dealer accepted the Mercury warranty.

I have only used it once. They did not cover the tranny filter and the solvents used to clean the assembly (had the fluid changed when the mechanic replaced my leaking tranny pan). So, $30 bucks was not covered. They covered everything involved in replacing the broken electric steering wheel height adjustment motor. All in all, not so bad. You will have to read other posts to find out what Mecury has and has not covered and why on other forum member's cars.

I'm in a world of hurt right now. On Saturday I took my vehicle in to Penske Mercedes in West Covina and came to find out that I'm out of factory warranty. Keep in mind that I'm at 46,000 miles. I bought the car used on October 10th 2005 with a little over 13,000 miles. The car was originally purchased as new by the original owner in February of the same year but the manufacturing date was September 24th 2004 as a 2005 model.
So, to the normal world, one would assume that that my 4 year 50,000 mile warranty would expire on February 2009 right? Wrong. My service technician proceeds to tell me that they go by the manufacturing date and not the original date of purchase. I have never in my life heard of this. I asked him "What about the new cars that are just sitting there on the lot or in shipment?" He tells me that everyday that goes by is a day lost on the original warranty and that it's a dirty little industry secret.
I went in for my driver side headlamp, rear shade not working and sunroof needing new rails. Total cost = $3500.00 without taxes. This is ridiculous. I called Mercury insurance because their 6 year 100k mile Gold-Platinum policy at $2,305.00 is probably the best out there right now but two things are pending; my Mercury broker is telling me that I might not qualify for the policy because I bought the vehicle used and my service technician reminded me that no extended warranty will cover my repairs anyway. I'm screwed man! Screwed! Does any have any suggestions for me?
Oh, not to mention the fact that I had to pay $130.00 for an evaluation just so I can have these things looked at because of the fact that I'm out of warranty. I'm on the fence on the entire situation. I need help. Thank you all in advance.

I have Mercury on my C55. Two claims so far, and no problems, except they insisted on a reworked steering gear, which took about 2 weeks to come in to the dealer. I think it is one of the better extended warranty companies.
