'03 C32 LET Stage I
Machine gun locks

I have heard machine gun locks on '98-'01 MLs is a common occurrence, but my driver side lock has started doing the machine gun lock thing recently (locks and unlocks very quickly) on my '03 C32. The worse thing is that sometimes it locks correctly and sometimes it does not. So I have to check to make sure the door is properly locked.

Does anybody have any experience with fixing this.

I went straight to dealership to fix it. its the door solenoid that needs to be replaced. the solenoid itself are not too costly, it is mainly from the labor intensive from replacing your door panel

Door lock cost about $80. Not that difficult to change. You have to remove the door panel. Drill out the rivets holding the airbag. Unbolt part of the window regulator and move the window out of the way. Unbolt the bad door lock. pull it down. Put in the new one and button it up. You should use steel rivets. Takes about an hour.

My just started doing the same thing..

Pisses me off! I replaced the passenger side about six months ago and now the drivers side is acting up. This car is nickel and diming me to death! Still love it though

2002 C32 1987 190E 2.3 334K miles and going
It's my trunk lid that does the machine gun sound. normally, if I open the trunk with the remote, no sound. But, half the time, when I close the trunk lid, the trunk lid won't close and bounce back up as if the lock catch is not positioned right. So, what I do is press the trunk latch handle once, sometimes twice, which makes that sound. And only then will the trunk lid close but not always. Is this a solenoid switch problem, too?

Same thing is happening to me on my passenger side door. Good thing I have 500 miles left on extended warranty.
