SL55 full intake, intake inlets
Hey guys,
Just purchased the full SL55 intake including the splitter, airboxes and intake hoses. i have been reading that the intake hoses are too long and that they are decently large in diameter.
i was wondering if it were possible to remove the two intake inlets on the front of the car to allow the larger SL55 intake hoses some more space for a better fit and a greater area to take in air. anyone know?
btw, happy thanksgiving!

just PM'ed him....but in his thread, it doesnt say anything about removing the air inlets that direct air flow into the air hoses. it talks about splicing the hoses though. TVT Design mentions in the thread about where the LET intakes have gone that their setup for other W203s doesnt work with the C32 because of the air inlets. i just wanna remove them lol.

You will need to shorten and modify the tubes. If you switch over to the SL55 intake our intake tubes will fit.
They don't fit with the C32 because of the way the tubes connect to the airboxes.
Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

neither.....i am talking about the little black plastic inlets at the very front of the intake system that take in the air initially and feed them to the intake hoses.

jturkel - you can mold the 32 openings into the 55 tubes. You need to make a cut 3/4 down the tube by the "accordion" portion and plastic mold them together.
This will give you the best OEM fitment.

btw, when i refer to these "inlets" i am referring to what is circled in the following picture. Mine are loose and I have read on the srt6 forum that they have taken them off, but I dont know how to do it on the c32.

I might be doing this mod too soon, I'll let you know if I figure something out. But I see what you're saying as to the openings. I think the best thing would be to measure the area of the inlets and see how that compares to the area of the 55 tubes to see if there is any restriction at all. Not sure if it affects power or not, but it seems like the inlets help guide colder air through that hasn't been heated by the radiator.

I don't think you will benefit too much from it. The real bottlenecks are downstream at the filters, Y splitter, and not even mentioning the plenum inlet bents...

i want to remove the inlets and place the ends of the 55 intake hoses in that spot. that way, the 55 hoses would be taking air (just like the inlets directed them into the hoses) from the grill. removing those inlets should allow for increased air flow even if its only a little more than with the inlet. the inlet is a restriction and i want to help eliminate it (or limit it).

just installed it...
wow that was a biotch......
right side air box does not fit well at all into the splitter. splitter is too short on that side. hopefully with some heat and some clamp work, it will look more clean as currently without a clamp, it isnt even cleanly on.
interesting thing to note......i was able to fit the full SL55 hose into those inlets with the 55airboxes....i hate to say it, but i just jammed it through....looks "interesting?"
i will take pics later to post
