Check Engine Light ON P0140
So the check engine light came on my friends C55. He went to autozone to pull the code came back with P0140 Secondary Air Injection System. Any ideas on what to look out for before taking it to MB.

2) Test to make sure the secondary fan work. I tested it by unplug the wire and connect it directly to the battery. There is a thread on how to fix if it fails. But most likely it's the relay.
Good luck

As CLKCLK suggested, it’s entirely possible that his relay is defective.
His CEL should nonetheless be covered under warranty. Depending upon your friend’s C55 age and its mileage, EPA statues typically dictate that it’s incumbent upon the manufacturer to ensure emissions compliance.
Know you’re an active and contributing member in the E55K section, so it’s only proper that MB’s air pump recall be shared. It specifically addresses how long the pump is activated after a cold start, rather than a defective pump. I’d respectfully suggest advising he discuss the matter with the service manager – not his SA - if they play dumb and insist upon costly repairs. Only then should he feel compelled to confront them with federally-mandated relief avenues.
If his engine has been modified like many of ours, then all bets may be off.

FWIW, I had the dreaded "Secondary Air Injection Pump" failure last year. Car was just barely out of warranty (4 years were up, but mileage was still only 30k or so IIRC) - my MB dealer offered to eat the parts cost as long as I paid the labor because of the very low mileage (labor was a couple hundred).
In advance of the appointment, I'd researched online, and found that even if I tried to source the parts as cheap as possible and do it DIY, it would've cost me slightly more, so I let them take care of it. Nice offer on their part, IMHO. Also, even though the Secondary Air Injection System's only function is to lower start-up emissions, MBUSA in their infinite wisdom doesn't consider it part of the "emissions system" covered under the extended emissions warranty... go figure.
