Suspension questions

I wish some of the forum member can help me to answer the following question.

Right now i'm interested on modding my 06 C55's suspension (for the first time.)
I'm looking for something which lowers the car for the look while stiffen the ride a bit for the handling (sometimes i feel the current strut is too soft?!)but somehow maintain the balance of reasonable ride comfort and better handling.

Would a coilover setup matches my need? or perhaps just a lowered spring would do? (from some of the thread i read, some people say that only the spring numbs the ride. but i don't know.)

lots of thanks.

Do you plan to run the car on a road course? If not then a stiffer suspension on the street will not make the car handle any better. In fact on some race tracks a stiffer suspension will be slower.

If you want it to look better then just install some aftermarket springs and add some swaybars to get rid of some of the body roll.

I really don't know.
One thing really bothers me tho.
Some friend told me that an aftermarket lowering spring would slowly eat away your damper. After some time, the ride and handling became worse than ever. is it true?

“eat away”???
Well, if you lower way outside dampers’ spec range, than yes you will slowly damage them. Also, if the spring is too soft or too hard you will slowly damage them. Of course incorrect spring rates will also create handling and ride quality problems. Generally speaking, lowering rear by 0.5” using springs 100lb stiffer should not be outside specs. I wouldn’t touch front. I notice you are in MA. Do you drive C55 during winter? If yes, than I would stay away from C/O. Constantly washing them grows old very quickly.

I DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE
?-I've run coils on my last 4 cars here in MN (in the winter) and have ha no problems at all with several builders-I'm currently looking at getting a set of KW's for the 55 as well-I think what sometimes can happen is that when a spring is too stiff-the dampner is prematurely worn-I've also seen shock towers blow out the top from stiff springs+pot holes-from the Evo forums-most drivers (track or DD) get 40k out of stock set ups w/ upgraded springes-I could see similar with the bils on AMG's-I'm tracking my car a couple times this spring to see what I'd like to go with-I've already done ways and its helped more then you would think for turing, ect-try improving the sways, end links, bushings-then see if that is enough for you-if not-try and find a local C55 (I know that can be harder) with springs or one with CO's and see what you like-

Actually, i had just moved from MA to WA, and I got my car sitting in a garage; (Here in WA, renting a garage parking is cheaper than renting a outdoor spot in Bahston) therefore weather shouldn't be an issue no more.

There's a set of KWv2 on the net i saw, 5k mile for $900.

I think I'm a taker

So where do you live? and do you mind sharing some numbers? such as the height which you dropped, and the stiffness etc?
