Question about rims and the use of spacers.....

hey guys,

i ordered a set of Replica Wheel AMG Twin Rims (8" front and 9" rear) to replace my TSW Bremmas (now discontinued), as they look exactly the same... but as my wheel guy was about to put them on, he said they wouldn't fit over the calipers nor would it reproduce the staggered look because the lip is smaller (the discounttire salesperson assured me they would fit and had the same lip... riiiiight those rims are now on their way back to discounttire).

I was thinking about trying to get these rims, as I've seen them on another C55 member's car I think... so I wanted feedback on whether you think these will fit (they seem to be very similar in spec to the bremma) or if I should get spacers as well to be safe? I've never used spacers before, so I also wanted to ask members what they've experienced and if there are any issues when using spacers, or if spacers will even solve my problem...

as u can tell I'm all over the place and this rim replacement process, especially in price range I'm limited to, has been pretty cumbersome. I GREATLY appreciate any suggestions, feedback or insight/advice --

thanks in advance!!

Well, let me say it before anyone else does... STFF, because Rim/Tire setups have been discussed ad-nauseum.

Having said that however, I'm not sure if a 8.5" wheel (I'm assuming you are going 8.5, in the front, because the link you posted was a 9.5") with an offset of 37mm would clear the calipers, according to the offset calculator here: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp the inner clearance would be 13mm less with the 8.5" wheel, which is about half an inch. There is definitely not half an inch between my stock rim and the caliper.

I may be completely wrong, but there you go, its late and I'm tired

OK so i think i understand the offset issue. the rims i had ordered (AMG twin) had only a 30 mm offset in the front and 35 mm in the rear... so thats why the tech told me the front wouldn't fit over the calipers but the rears would, but those particular rims had a smaller lip than the TSW bremmas and i'd lose the staggered "look".

so i'd be going from a 35 mm offset to a 37 mm offset, so inner clearance would be 2 mm less... so my final question is: do i have to get a 2 mm spacer to make the rims fit?

thanks again guys, i'm just trying to sort this all out soon cuz my car was at the shop and i haven't driven it in weeks

I DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE
I just ordered a set of Mandrus (built by TSW) Manheim's 8.5 all the way around with a +32 and they are fitting just fine front and rear-$220 a rim (disco tire-my guy came through-again!)-
As for the spacer-I ran them on my Evo X in the front to get some 10.5's to fit (yep-wider is better )-+2 will be dead on for you!
