Renntech carbon fiber airbox - 3rd independent dyno
As promised, here are the dyno results I said I would post running the stock C55 airbox against the Renntech carbon fiber airbox . I did about 8 pulls in 4th gear. All tests were done on a Mustang Dyno using the same pair of stock Mann filters in both airboxes. The last series of tests were done with a clean set of K&N filters. This is now the third time this has been performed pitting the stock airbox against the Renntech one. The first rounds of tests were performed by hooleyboy: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...rbox-dyno.html and the second one performed by cdd here: : https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/290596-dyno-results-totally-stock-renntech-airbox.html Thanks to both of them for inspiring me to do this for myself. By nature I’m very skeptical of anything tuners claim so I just had to find out for myself. The Renntech airbox consistently showed about a 6-8 rwhp/tq gain for me everytime. A bit more with the K&Ns. Perhaps once the ECU fully adapts there will be a bit more. Here you go:

Comparing the two boxes side by side the main differences are that the Renntech box is about an inch taller and completely baffle free on the inside. I found it interesting that it looks like they took the stock one, "cut" it in half, gutted it and then molded "more" on to the top of it Oh well, whatever works I guess!

Thank you for your efforts. It is very convincing to have 3 independent dyno tests all showing some detectable gains from the Renntech airbox compared to stock.
Sure makes me feel good about my Renntech airbox with K&N filters!
My own 0-60mph acceleration tests (with a Beltronics accelerometer) show the following (on the same patch of road, same tires, same time of day):
stock airbox with brand new clean paper filters: 4.70 seconds
Renntech airbox with clean K&N filters: 4.67 seconds
Is there a real difference?? I don't know. Maybe it may add up to something more significant when accelerating longer (like the quarter mile, which I have never tried).

You'll be glad to know I actually had it clear coated to keep it looking nice so I guess it is in good hands! For everyone that doesn't know this is the same airbox hooley was using..
PC Valkyrie - I actually did 3 quarter mile runs later that day but my results were so pathetic I won't bother posting. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get any traction with the 19" Monolite/Toyo proxies combination

Whats nice about it is its makes power and and it looks good. Its a good mod for sure. IF anyone wants a C55 renntech airbox PM me at my alter ego MBH motorsports.
I think between the 3 dyno posts on the airbox its safe to say these airboxes make power.

So essentially its yet another hybrid product similar to hybrid pulleys & etc. You would think for the kind of money some tuners charge they would just make a new unit from the ground up instead of hybridizing everything.
At least it made dynoed gains so that's a good thing. How much is the airbox (if you don't mind me asking)?

white and whiter
the baffle inside the airbox is for sound distortion which quiets the airflow once it enters the box. in other words: slows it down. dremmel out the baffles I'll bet you'll see some decent increase. might not be as much as in increasing the air volume like the renntech airbox, but it should work some what while saving you thousands.
i've seen few ppl that took out the baffle inside the M271 airbox btw and it definitely works.
if
edit: btw, did anyone compare the gain vs the 55k airbox? on the c55? forgot if i've seen it or not.

On the topic of cutting the stock air box-I removed the internals in mine about 2 months ago with needle nose pliers and a dremel-no ill effects on the car-sounds the same, no notice in hp or tq-but I can say I did it

Don't. It is a royal waste of time. First off, they are designed to equally distribute air across the entire filter. Second, when you get K&N drop in filters they are almost an inch thinner and air can easily pass over the fins anyways so removing them is 100% unnecessary and pointless.
