Those of you with Evosport Flat Hood Emblem..

Well I got the BiXenons installed today.. and the dealer got a CL emblem for us, but didn't install it, because he said it would require drilling or epoxy, and he didnt want to epoxy something that was going to get driven on the highway 10 minutes later.

What about the Evosport kit? Does anyone know if that is just a quick bolt on, or what.. Is it identical to a CL500 flat one? I believe the dealer just took a CL500 flat emblem (or SL, CLK, etc) from the parts department, not positive.

Anyway, is drilling or epoxy required for the Evosport kit

They're like $27 at the dealer. Just pop your hood, unscrew a hex nut, and that's it. Couldn't be simpler. I don't know what that bit about the epoxy's all about. Maybe it's a different style or something.

If they are $27 at the dealer, that is NEWS to me! Post a part # and save us all some money!

The flat emblem itself is a MB part. However, the billet aluminum adapater is something that is custom made.

Regardless, our cost to buy them from our supplier in Europe is MORE then $27 so I would be shocked and pleasantly surprised if you could get it for that FROM the dealer!

Thanks

Brad

Yep, I highly doubt that the price jackers at the dealers will charge "only" $27. I got "hooked" up for $40 at my regular motorsports shop. And it is pretty quick to install, I saw them just pop out the star through the hood and screwed the flat hood on.

Also, the price is $42, not $50.

Thanks!

And the kit from the dealer:

"...the dealer got a CL emblem for us, but didn't install it, because he said it would require drilling or epoxy, and he didnt want to epoxy something that was going to get driven on the highway 10 minutes later."

Our kit does not require drilling or epoxy. It takes about 5 minutes to install, and you can drive immediately after.

There is NO DRILLING required for the adapter kit you have pictured. The adapter (item to the left of the emblem) is what secures the emblem to your vehicle.

People who have Mercedes models with the upright hood star (e.g., E, C, S classes, etc.) will need the adapter kit!!

I will PM you.

$27 is what I paid to my dealer. I bought it from my salesman right after I signed my papers. I thought he was gonna give it to me for free, but he came up to me and demanded $27.

The flat badge alone is about 15 dollars from my dealer and the adaptor piece which is manufactured by MH-Dezent is 30 dollars.

My dealer sells it as a set for 45 bucks.

edit: got an extra one, PM me

Jay

One nice thing is, once you have the flat badge properly installed with the adapter, you can go back/forth to the upright star in about 5 minutes, as you wish.

I get as many comments on my flat AMG badge as I do on my whole car. (Got two just today). So not a bad $50 investment.
BTW a few bucks saved is not important if you get a crappy installation.

I think the star is more attractive to sneak-thieves. When I drive into the city I am sure the flat badge is on there.

This the emblem M.B part #A 638 817 01 16. My dealer has it for $13.92, but that is only the star, not the adapter kit. He just said that is much more, then he said the star will not sit flush with the hood, will be higher and kinda funny looking? Is that true? He basically asked me to come in and he'd show me how it comes out.

The emblem rests on the hood the same way it does when it comes stock on a car. It will look like it does on the SL/CL on any hood.

The old MB star is really just a twisting lock. Go underneat the hood, and twist the two prongs to the left. then slide the star out from above.

I have a 2003 and it just twists off.

Is this supposed to have 2 white bushings? Mine only came with one.

Thanks,
Alex

It is really frustrating when you get an incomplete package, and cannot perfectly complete the installation. Mine came w/ only one bushing, and I had to use a plastic bushing from other applications. It is not a perfect fit; but the emblem stayed on at least.

yeah, mine came like that too, and it still doesn't sit flush on the hood, and turned out to be a complete pain in the A#@ to install, but it still looks a LOT better than the upright star!!

The emblem (stock) does not sit flush on the hood of any Mercedes, why should this be any different?
