Anyone have a Schatz shift knob? Fit?

The C55 interior is very nicely done IMO, especially w/ the maple wood. Yet my plain silver capped shift knob is killing me. It's just too plain.

So I'd like to replicate the Affalterbach crest cap, and I think I know how -

The only problem is that 1) it's going to take a while to get done and 2) it's going to be very expensive. So for now, I want to change out the stock knob to either a maple wood Schatz knob or a stock knob with the Mercedes emblem.

Has anyone had any issues with the Schatz knobs? I was reading in other threads that they are sometimes a little loose on the shaft? Or may also cause the leather boot to be too short (and pop out)?

I've had mine for about 2 years now. I love it, compared to the piece of crud that came with my C32. Check out this thread for more info:

I have a picture of mine at post #67. It was a display unit so it was missing the lower trim piece but still fits fine.

I want one too, I was in contact with DCT Motorsports about making the one like this, but they keep ignoring me and they said it would be really simple to make. They expect me to know how many people are willing to pay for it without even giving me a price. Maybe we can find someone else willing to make one like this.

I'm willing to do it, I'm just trying to find a "cheap" way to do it. Getting it coated and engraved is no problem. The problem is the actual pieces - I haven't drilled out my knob just yet, but my guess is that underneath the cap are a couple of clips. Recreating this full cap is not something I want to do - by injection molding or some other type of casting, because it would be expensive. Creating a stamped cap (make a couple of dies) to make it as a stick on cover is another option, except that due to the way the leather fits around the cap, I think it would stick up slightly and look ugly. So full replacement I think is the only way to go, but it won't be cheap. CNC'ing new ones would also be outrageous. And swapping them out slowly one by one is the long and tedious way that doesn't seem realistic if many members want to get involved, having their cars down for x amount of time or people destroying their knobs at home. I don't know, I'll think about it.
Regardless, this thread is about the schatz (and stock mb star) knobs

There are some on ebay, but I've had trouble contacting the seller. Schatz also has a german website with english titles. Only problem is the one I found on their site says number 7727224, whereas the one on the ebay listing said 7727212, which doesn't exist. So before buying I wanted to ask the seller to confirm, but got no reply.

If this is the guy you are referring to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Schat...Q5fAccessories , he is the same guy I bought mine from. He seemed pretty responsive at the time. I can't vouch for the model number but he was a good person to work with and I would definitely buy from him again.
Come to think of it, I contacted him asking if he had any carbon fiber knobs. He sold me mine via emails, not though ebay.

white and whiter
IMO the schatz shift knob looks stupid because of that neck design where it meets the shift boot.
you can get the SLK55 knob which is the one from the picture which only cost a little more or go for something unique like the Brabus or Carlsson shift knob.

Let me know what the seller says though. Just in case he throws some more up, can tell if he is legit or not.

Not a fan of the MB logo on the SLK 55 one.
I like the Brabus and Carlsson, but tough to find. Last Brabus one used going on this forum was the same price as new.

The SLK55 comes with the silver capped knob that the stock C55 comes with. The Affalterbach knob comes from the SLK55 Black Series, only available in Europe. There are a couple members on here who have been able to get that knob directly from AMG, but had a very tough time getting it. And at a price of over 500 euros.....
