Metal Core high flow cats now only $75 on ebay....

Hey guys,

Found another seller on ebay selling the same 300-cell metal core high flow cats for only $75 shipped each. If you haven't done high flow cats yet, now would probably be the best time to do so for only $150 shipped for the pair ($30-40 cheaper than before for the pair). Always trying to bargain hunt for you guys .

Hope that helps.

Be cautious with cheap un-tested cats. Cheap cats tend to come apart inside their housing quickly, emisions issues, rattle and cause performance issues. Nasty!!

Upsides: More HP/TQ dyno proven, improved sound, longer lasting, quick & easy install (1 hour labor at most), street legal etc.

downsides: they cost more than cat delete or ceramic cats (hardly a downside really).

Its been done dozens of times on MBworld and there are many dynos floating around proving its gain.

These cats are not "cheap unproven" cats, in fact they cost more than those junk stock one that come in our cars (and fail as early as 45k miles). They have been race tested and each cat can handle up to 5.9L alone so clearly they can handle whatever you throw at them.

There is virtually zero performance benefit to be gained from installing aftermarket catalytic converters on an otherwise stock M112 application.

Our OE C32 hardware flows remarkably well and has proven to be quite durable. Effective, too. Registered about 99% cleaner than California's stringent hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen standards during its most recent biennial tailpipe inspection – after ~70k vigorous miles. They’ll typically prematurely fail only when subjected to improper fueling or an ongoing misfire condition. Note some C55's have been recalled for fresh converters per EPA edict. Oops.

Upside regarding the aforementioned off-broadway hardware is that it’s dirt cheap. They’re not CARB approved. Probably ideal for unscrupulously passing a smog check before sending it down the river to its next hapless owner.

i'm at 97k on stock cats and i just passed smog. i think only downside to high flow cats is probably failing cali smog emissions. i had high flow cat on my integra and i kepted failing until i replaced them with oem spec ones.

The problem is California... not the catalytic converters . Theres a reason Cali is going broke.

In the normal world (aka 49 states) they are 100% legal and work great and delivery very strong gains per $ on the C55s. As mentioned, the C32s don't do much but then again most exhaust mods on M112 don't do much so not much of a surprised really.

Your welcome

actually the more wealthy and densely populated states follow the same california standards. I believe Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey (whoo hoo!), New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington all currently use california smog standards.

Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, and Utah are planning to adapt the same standard.

growing up in california, i can testifiy the smog standards are working. The air is cleaner now then it was even 12yrs ago. I remember back in the 90's the smog was so thick we couldn't even see the mountains that were 10miles away. We had stage 1 smog alerts almost every other day where we couldn't play outside because of the risk of lung damage.

California being at a deficit has more to do with the economy rather then smog standards.

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007...a_sues_epa.php

so only 38 states are in the normal world

That was in reference to CARB (which is Cali).

300-cell high flow metal core cats are still 49 state legal and fully OBD2 complaint. Honestly, Metal core cats are actually better for emissions because they fire up faster and last longer, but OEMs don't use them b/c they are simply too cost prohibitive.

They're too cost-prohibitive for Mercedes Benz to spec on an AMG, but you can get 'em for 75 bucks on ebay...?

Just making sure I understand.

lets say difference in cats is roughly $50-100, lets say $50 just to be fair.... multiply by 4 cats per car, multiply by 100,000s of cars... you begin to see the numbers add up very quickly. $200 per car x 100,000 cars (and this is very conservative) = $20mill.... every little bit counts. Furthremore, the cats are not AMG... they are just standard off the shelf mercedes cats that come on any other regular mercedes which is yet another reason (and sign of proof) that its all about cost cutting.

So the answer to your question is undoubtedly... YES ...

I'm not on either side of this thread, but.....

Being that I work for an automotive manufacturer, yes, every penny matters, a lot.
