Upgraded to a new W209 CLK shift knob (pics inside)

When I bought my car, it had a torn hole in the shift boot which I knew I'd have to eventually replace. You can't see it when it's in park, but you can see it when it's in drive (basically, whenever I'm in the car). So I started buying parts here and there to replace the boot, but I also think that the shift knob that AMG included with the 203's, 209's, and 171's looks REALLY cheap with that silver cap on top and plain surrounding leather. There's nothing to distinguish it, and in fact I find the regular 203 knobs to be much better looking w/ the MB star on top. Perhaps it matches the stock aluminum trim, but it sure looks plain as hell w/ the birdseye maple. I like the birdseye maple Schatz knob, and you can find it cheap on ebay, but I heard that there is a small fitment issue and I'm not a 100% fan of the large bottom boot ring. The ultra-rare Affalterbach crest topped knob is also really cool, but I'm not willing to dish out 100's of bucks on a custom made one right now. So off I went in search for a stock knob....in addition to another boot....

I found this and picked it up on ebay, brand new knob and boot, from a regular W209 CLK. And it looks SO much better than the stock AMG knob. Has chrome trim and the MB star w/ the chrome edge. Wasn't happy about the price, but it was brand new, came with boot, and wasn't bad comparing what it should cost originally and what other aftermarket knobs might cost.

And in case you're wondering what it looks like when you take it off:

How to install:

PS on this picture - notice I forgot to put the locking ring back on. This is the second time I do this - I was sitting upstairs and said "I forgot to put the ring on AGAIN". Had to go back and take off the boot again, luckily it only takes a second.

And the finale (sorry for the bad pic, only the interior lights were on and the flash pic looks bad):

The knob's chrome trim matches the chrome trim on the dash radio and a/c controls, and the MB star on top matches the star on the steering wheel. Definitely looks awesome in person - the shift knob is the "center" of the car; the aorta to it's heart, as you grab with your hand, and put it into gear to take off....

I of course now have a "few extra parts" that I'm probably going to post on ebay/MBW classifieds as I won't be needing them.

I know there are probably way too many pics here and probably too long of a story, but everyone always likes lookin at pics even if the post sucks lol so I hope you all enjoyed!

I don't know why they didn't use the shift knob the regular w203's got either. Nice mod.

Thanks for the comments guys. I got my headlight fixed today so I took it out tonight. The little orange glow that comes down from the rear view mirror ever-so-slightly gives the knob a very nice glow, with the surrounding wood and rest of the center console. It looks really pimp; I'm happy.

As for the link? It was an ebay item so the link is useless? The part number on the knob and boot though was A203 267 1811 I believe.

I have a different one... I was able to have it replaced under warranty with the same one. I don't know what vehicle it came off of either... But it doesn't look like either of the ones pictured. The top half is silver with the star in the center and the bottom is the leather. I wonder what vehicle it comes from.
