How much is everyone paying to have the secondary cats and resonator removed?
I'm wanting to get my secondary cats and my resonator removed so I'm trying to find out what everyone is paying to have this done so I have an idea of what a normal price is. I've only got two options so far. One is Random Technologies is just down the road, they said they could probably help me but I would need to remove the exhaust from the car myself and bring it to them. That's fine and all and I know they'll do a good job with the welds and all, but I would be worried that something could happen and the exhaust might not line up/fit right in the car when I put it back in since there isn't really any adjustment. Plus, my car is a Florida car and has some beach rust on the exhaust (but nowhere else!), so I expect to have to have to replace all the hardware (just hopefully not the studs on the manifold since those are always a PITA). They told me probably a few hundred dollars. The other option I've found is my dealer does a ton of accessories and they said they can do what I want. The guy who does the exahust work is quoting 10 hours for the job (@ $120 an hour!). I'm trying to work them on the price but I doubt I'll be able to budge it much. I don't know of any exhaust shops that I'll trust with my car and I know will do a good job.
Oh, and please save the stealer ripoff comments because I don't really care to hear it. That's not what this thread is about anyway.

Hit the phone book in your area for exhaust shops. I wouldn't pay more than $250-300 for the total job. its not hard to do and you dont need crazy stainless to do it either.

What is the best way for them to do it? I would like to leave the exhaust in the same form is is now and have three seperate pipes welded in place of the two cats and resonator so the system is still easily removable in necessary. The only picture I've seen someone post had all the factory seperations gone and just one long pipe from the y-pipe to the two mufflers - which I do not want. I want this to look factory. Is that what I should be able to get for $300?
The factory pipe is a standard size right? Nothing wierd (like its in metric, oval in places, or something)? I think advans said in the other thread that the pipe is 2.5", but that seems awful small to me (maybe he was referring to the guy with the C32).

Yeah... that's exactly what I don't want. The pipe will be .5" too big and the welds will have dingleberries hanging off all over. No thanks.

I'm not talking about some random rednecks man... There are plenty of shops that works on hotrods , dragsters, and imports in GA... Jst goto a reputable shop and pay no more than $80 for resonator.
It's requires 2 cuts, and weld... Kinda hard to f' it up..

^I'm with this guy. Its a VERY simple exhaust job, most any muffler shop should be able to handle it, and most of them weld all day so they should be able to get you a weld without dingleberries on it. Don't overthink this one or you'll end up paying an unnecessary amount to essentially have 3 pieces of pipe welded in.

Yeah well I took my old Camaro to an exhaust shop to have them weld on an exhaust hanger that was broken when I got rear ended. It lasted a week and blew a bigger hole in the pipe.

I had a shop in Norcross, GA cut my cats/resonator on my C55. IIRC I think they charged me $150 out the door.

Guys,
He asked for our suggestion, but he didn't seem like to take what we gave him. Why don't you guys just let him pay what he likes? It's not our problem if he wants to pay $1200 for 6 cuts and 3 pipes.
Just do what you like and enjoy it.
Sorry

BTw, theres at least 10 resonator threads (W203 C32/C55)... You should look it up (search)... I think most people paid $60-90 for the job.
Good luck

Last advice... 120$ an hour = Absurd. !0 Hours = Absurd. 1-2 Hours for $150-$200.. About right. Take it for what it's worth. We drive C55's not Bugatti's.

You are getting ripped off. Some redneck probably sees you driving a Mercedes and things you are total dummy.
2nd cats are $120, Resonator probably $80. You should be able to do both between $150-200 total. Anything more is getting a bit excessive. Shop around to a few local muffler shops. Often times you can get better rates at local private owned muffler shops vs. the Midas types which charge a bit more.
Help that helps

exhaust shops will probably have more experience with that type of work either way. I know dealers don't have pipes to fit in place of the cats and I know it definitely not an approved service. I work for at a dealer and I know they would not do this type of request as it would void your emissions warranty. I am not sure why they are offering this type of service at your dealer. That price is absurd as well I paid 60/60/60 cat cat resonator.
