Installed spoiler, trunk spring not strong enough to pop trunk lid anymore

2012 GL550

Installed spoiler, trunk spring not strong enough to pop trunk lid anymore

I just installed a trunk spoiler, adjusted all the springs to the last hole on the bracket. That should be the tightest setting for the trunk lid, but the lid still won't pop, it just needs a light finger push to get it going.

Does anybody know if I can adjust the other end of the spring? Anybody have this problem too?

My trunk lid flies open. I'm scared it's going to break, I would think it should have enough force to open on its own.

Hmm yeah, even before the spoiler went on, I already had to adjust one of the springs tighter so that the lid would pop up on its own. I think overtime maybe the springs just got weaker.

lol, I have my spoiler installed, sometimes it doesnt pop open.

My car doesn't pop open with the spoiler installed, my old C230 was the same way.

You can adjust the spring position behind the trunk liner. They dont work as well when it is cold outside, the srings lose there spring with temperture. At some point you may need to replace the springs.

My c55 only pops but doest swing open. Pretty annoying-

Perhaps a trip to Home Depot for some clamps to compress the trunk spring.

Taking up some of the slack may do the trick.

I dont understand why it wouldnt pop up since it's stock on the 55, mine always poped up with the OEM one I also got a carbon fiber one now and it pops up as well.

I guess the spring just needs replacing, I'll look into that option. The car is a 2002 so the spring possibly got weaker over time.

my C55 use to just pop open but never swung all the way up, took it in to the dealership and they either replaced the springs or adjusted them but now it shoots up no problem.
