C32 AMG Common Maintenance
I think a thread listing the common issues encountered with the C32 AMG would be useful. I'll start with a list of problems I've had since buying my AMG at 83,000 miles. It's now at 96,000 miles.
1. Heat exchanger pump failure. Supercharger will disengage. Installed modified Lightning pump $100 on ebay.
2. Power steering pump failure. Shot bearings. Leaking from pulley shaft. $680 for brand new pump.
3. Control arm bushings. Purchased F/R, but not installed yet.
4. Oil level sensor failure. I'm just ignoring the malfunction for now...
5. Remote unlock/lock issue. It just won't work sometimes!
6. Driver seat for/alt failure. It smelled like fishy electronics... Motor?
7. CEL pending for "Incorrect Gear Ratio" which did set CEL light one time. Ideas?
8. Exterior tubes, and plastic are somewhat brittle, and weak.
9. Found a small oil leak on the oil cooler connected to the oil filter housing... Gasket?
Here's some stuff other stuff...
10. Possible wear on transmission, and motor mounts.
11. Leaking supercharger intercooler.
12. Glycol contamination of tranny, and differential. (Only 02' model, correct?)
13. Coolant pump failure (120k on my 02' sportcoupe)
14. Alternator, what mileage do they run in general?
15. Idler pulley bearing failure. (I don't have one...)
16. Supercharger pulley bearing failure. (Nothing yet, but have replacement.)
17. Fuel filter. (Mercedes recommends 60k interval change.)
18. Random bulb out malfunctions. (Get these sometimes. Clean contacts?)
That's about all I can think of right now...

This thread is misleading. The problems listed are not "Common Maintenance". Perhaps if we replace the word "common" with "gt4awd's" we'll get a more accurate representation of the information contained herein.

perhaps common maintenance was not the most accurate way to describe the information he posted. maybe "likely crap that might happen to your car" is a better title for this list...

Sorry about that... I did list what has gone wrong with my C32 first, but also listed other problems. I guess you could say it's not common maintenance, but likely areas of failure.

Since the purchase of my C32, excluding Service A/B, oil changes and tires, I have had to fix/replace the following things:
1. (1) Rear taillight bulb.
2. (1) IC pump fuse located in the trunk fusebox.
That's all for me. I swapped the OEM IC pump for a Johnson unit, but the OEM was working fine at 60k mi. when pulled, and the Johnson is what blew the IC pump fuse. No other failures, and everything works fine. I should also note that I have extensive mods, or similar to you(185 pulley, etc). The AMG engine builder who signed my plaque is Uwe Gruber, which upon looking online, I discovered that of the 50 or so builders, he's one of only 6 who are allowed to build the Maybachs, and SLRs. Maybe I got a good one?

well you gotta keep in mind your car is 8yrs old now. In euro car yrs thats the same as having a 16yr old honda or toyota..lol Then again my 14yr intega gave me less problems, but then you gotta pay to play.

I do agree... Figure it's karma's way of getting back at me for buying a $50,000 dollar car at 1/5th the price. I think the C32 is worth it, especially after performance modifications, but the failures sure are expensive, and bothersome...

your definatly right about the coolant pump, replaced mine at 71k miles and the s/c bearing went too, oh and i dont know if this goes for everyone but my seat heaters went out, after that everything is perfect im now at 80k miles and it runs great
