Talking Carrera 4S Circa 2005

Today I was leaving the King of Prussia Mall in PA and was stopped at the light to get onto 202 South...

A Carrera 4S rolls up next to me... Old guy driving, wasnt expecting anything...

Light turns green, start to roll, get to about 20mph and we both just mash the pedals, to my surprise I walked away from him and let off around 120mph..

I kept slowing to try and get him next to me again but he kept hanging back...

Didnt realize we were able to beat up on 911's...

I only have Green Air Filters, Res Delete and 2ndary cat delete, I'm guessing thats enough to get the job done... Was thinking about some speed holes too...

I love 911's and Porsches in general. They are lovely cars, but they drive like big torquey VW beetles. The first time I drove a 911 Carrera, it was like getting to sleep with a super model only to find out that she was not so hot in bed, lol. The 944 series handles way better than the 911's. Still, they are great cars.

993 Turbo. That's what I want if I ever get a 911. Always loved the wide-body style of the air cooled models. To me they just lost a bit of their soul when they switched to a water cooled engine.

I know how you feel. My friend had a '77 911S that he restored when we were in HS. Dropped the motor like 6 times tuning it and it took I think like 9 quarters of oil lol. But it handled so well with no power steering, 160hp i believe and some ancient tires. Magnificent car.

Even if you knew the super model was horrible in bed before hand, would you still say no?? I dont think so..lol..

I still wouldn't mind owning a 996 turbo as my cruising car. I think i would be too afraid of the repair bill to actually track it.

Actually they lost a LOT more than soul, they lost their quality. Before I purchased the my C55 I was looking at buying a 99-04 911, WOW what an education. I have owned air cooled 911s and they were very reliable fun cars, but the water cooled are ticking time bombs. I kept finding cars with 30-70k miles saying "new crate engine". I don't mean one or two but a lot, so I start to dig in to see what the deal is. Porsche went cheap on the new engine design (BTW, the turbo cars have a completely different engine block and design and are very reliable) and never resolved the issue til 08 model year. They have an intermediate shaft that not only has a bearing issue, it has a strength issue. So you can be driving along at 60 mph and all of a sudden with no warning, idiot lights come on, the gas pedal goes dead and you look in the mirror to see white clouds of smoke like an F1 car letting go. Motor - destroyed, repair bill $13k crate motor + labor to install. The sobering news is the crate motor is no different than the one that just let go, no improved design just more of the same. There is even a site called Porsche enginefailures.com. It's the very reason if you look at a used 98 911 it will be $35k and a 99 will be $18k.

It's too bad that they went from being an endurance champion to something less reliable than a Yugo. I find it quite ironic that Prof. Ferry Porsche died in 1998 and so did the 911. He would have never stood for what they became, never. He was the reason for things like a 9 quart dry sump because after many laps on a skid pad it was theoretically possible to starve an engine of oil, the engineers said no one could own one and drive like that. Prof. Porsche said, if it could be done then it won't be on my cars. He was so focused on quality that 95% wasn't good enough for him.

OP, did your import your 2007 C55? Last model year here in the states is 2006. Not sure if the C55 was available in 2007 elsewhere.

By the way, I saw a black/black C55 at the KOP Costco 2 weekends ago. Was that you?

i ran a carrera 4s and they are shy about 100hp against my 63 . @ 125 i was ghost . Where they do shine is in handling .

Now a 911 turbo is a totally different ball game

I was at Costco 2 weeks ago, a week ago, and the other day... I find it hard to stay away from that place.

Mine is a 2006, need to correct the signature...
