Gas pedal cover

Has anyone had an issue with the gas pedal cover sliding up? Then causing the car to accelerate? Mine was replaced a while ago for this issue. Only to have it do it again. It didnt end well this time either. I found a curb at 20mph.. So my car is at the body shop.. Totally sucks that this happened.

Ouch, sucks about hitting the curb. Mine slides up too though. I just check it and slide it back down every couple weeks.

I wonder if some double sided tape back there might help hold it in place or something. It is def a safety hazard though and sounds very similar to some of the scary stuff we are all hearing about the recent issues with toyota.

Yeah, I once pegged my garage door because of this issue. Back in My NA days. I was able to stop it before I ended up in the the garage the hard way. No damage to the car that day. Although I had a nice dent int he garage door. This time, with all this power, I could not stop the car and found a curb. I'm so lucky the only damage that was done was to the suspension and front bumper. 20mph to the side of a big curb= not good.

File a complaint with corporate. Maybe they will do something for you since gas pedals are such a touchy issue. I have never had this problem myself though, but you stomp on yours a little more than I do I assume

That's a little scary. I believe if I had that happening I would replace the pedal set with one of those that are aluminum with the little rubber grippy spots on them. That should solve the problem, right?

Thats what it is. The aluminum pedal with the grippy spots is held on by a rubber gasket that slips over the top of the plastic pedal. I actually think the grippy spots are what cause it to slide up.

I would advise people to just check their pedal cover to make sure its down all the way. Really this could have been a whole lot worse if there was any bit of traffic. I think the whole under side of my suspension is total junk right now, considering the front tire looks like the "Back to the future" Delorean all folded over. I guess thats what happens when you hop a curb

Get the brabus pedals that secure with screws. First mod I added and have never had an issue... and you also then have a dead pedal instead of dirty carpet.

I just read the other thread and was linked to here
Is this only in the C55's
Forgive me i come off as selfish in light of your relative's passing and an unfortunate accident but I'm curious do C32's have this problem as well, more importantly do all C Classes have this problem?
Seeing the negative toyota publicity has me worried.

maybe its the same supplier, most auto manufacturers now all use the same suppliers. Thats why reliability surveys between different models are very similar now.

Not to sound like an ***, but if the car gets stuck in acceleration, can't you just turn off the engine? I know you can't turn the car back on in D, but you can turn it off in D.

My sis has a 07 camry, i told her if the acceleration pedal gets stuck, just turn off the engine and turn on your hazards and drive it with momentum to the side of the road.

^ That was pretty harsh to say.

What if he was starting from a stop or approaching a curve and you hit the brake, and then realize? It's only half a second before you hit the curb. You're not a freeway here, you're on a city street making a turn.

well i understand, in a emergency situation you don't have much time to think it over and fear can play a huge role in how you react. It just seems to make more sense just to turn off the engine then to try to over power the car with the brakes.

I figured it easier just to remember turn ignition left. Then brake, neutral, brake and steer.

Mike,
I know youre not thinking about this now but when the pain subsides.
Get a lawyer and sue MB for this!
Its payback for all the warranty denials the ********s at MBUSA try to pull.

Actually this is a legitimate item. That pedal cover should be secured with screws or hardware, the fact it can slide up on the pedal underneath it is an obvious design flaw that should have never been made. I think you have a real case here. I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Well to add an update to this thread, I spoke to my service advisor about this and specifically sited hooleyboy's car getting totaled and explained what had happened to my car. He was very helpful and spoke to another adviser who had a c55 customer that complained once as well. He submitted an official request to MBUSA and they found it to be a valid complaint and are replacing the pedal covers. Im sure they are probably the original design and it too will fail eventually but its good to know that something is getting done and they are aware of the flaw.
