Angry DO NOT USE GREEN AIR FILTERS!!

CEL came on yesterday, car stalling, surging... Pulled the code.. P0102- MAF...

Mercedes tech pulled the MAF sensor, turns out that the oil from the filter was all gummed up on it. Keep in mind that my car has 25,000 miles on it and these filters were only 2 months old and factory oiled.

Well it almost voided my warranty since it was directly related to the filter... I almost ended up having to pay for a new MAF sensor and a TCU, not sure why, but hell, ill take anything thats new! They said it was to get it out of limp mode, i thought a computer reset would do it, apparently not. So i would have out of pocket had to dump around $1800 because of those freaking things...

The tech was an actual AMG Certified tech. He basically said to me "dont try to make power out of these motors doing cheap import mods, if you want power, make it the right way, dont risk sucking more debris into your motor for an additional 5 horsepower..."

So thats my story, just wanted to give you all a heads up, this is officially my first glitch with the car. Lets hope its the last for a while.

This has been a known issue, that's why it's good to be a little more active in these forums.

This is prolly the first case of green filter's oil messing up MAF.
If you got the eariler batch of Gfilter, it is known to fell apart after 1 year (give or take)..

And lemme tell ya something.. Green filter is more expensive than K&N.... and I was told it's more safer to use it than K&N

Lastly, how'd u get 2007 C55

This has been reported many times. Happened to me too. Dealer told me to use a K&N.

Funny thing is, K&N uses same oil.... I read somewhere that green doesn't come free oil'd from the factory and therefore it was safer.. but then when u refresh the filter with their kit, you do have to oil it again..

Correct me if i'm wrong.. (main reason why I paid more to go with Green instead of K&N)

Well, the safest option if you don't routinely clean your MAF (with MAF cleaner not carb cleaner) is to use clean paper filters. Any oiled filter will draw in oil mist - however, if you have so much oil on the filter that it affects the MAF, it may be over oiled.

I have over 100,000 miles now (50,000+ with K&N). Hope this helps!

Oh, also I should mention that my green filter failed due to physically breaking apart, not oil issues. If it's just oil issues you're having and the filter is not coming apart, then I suggest you clean the MAF once in a while. If you're not comfortable with removing the MAF then use the paper filters. I don't believe there is a HP increase with any aftermarket filters.

C32 ///AMG
I changed from Greens to K&N just a couple weeks ago. The seals around the Greens were deteriorating bad.

In this instance, your technician was indeed correct.
Could have been far worse.

I sound like a green filter fanboy but they will replace your faulty filters free of charge..
They replaced mine more than an year ago and so far so good.. I cleaned it few weeks ago with their kit.... .... I'm keeping OEM filters / driver in the trunk just in case...

Would I buy GF again? Prolly not cuz K&N being cheaper and perform similar and all...

If I had to do it all over again, I prolly go wiht renntech airbox + K&N

That's why I use regular air filters. I also had Blackstone Labs tell me my air filtration wasn't that good when I had a K&N on my Trailblazer (it was new too). The oil in the filters will also gum up the throttle body and can eventually cause throttle lag, low idle, or rough idle.

Yeah I just put in factory OEM Mann elements, there are tests that show K&N just lets in dirt. Nope, brand new originals and zero issues and there never will be either. Funny how that works.

I'm going to listen to the AMG tech and go the route of adding real power instead of messing with 5-10 horsepower playing with intakes. Kleeman baby...

Maybe some shorty headers with bullet cats and a true dual exhaust system.. Emissions is a ***** in PA.

This, and just use factory filters, change them on a regular basis, and do a resonator and 2nd cat delete for power.

Green, Ftw. No, I'm just saying that because I installed Greens 2 weeks ago and my car is running better than ever, but I guess I'll switch up to K&N after reading this bullsht. Speaking of green, Happy St Patty's week, and if you must drink and drive, make sure your ESP is on.

a quarter mile at a time
IMO:

Why even bother with Green/K&N? I'm asking very seriously here. Both use media that require oils to achieve filtration. Both have SIGNIFICANTLY less surface area than stock paper filters. K&N has also stated that thier filter is not designed to filter particles as small as the stock paper filters are. Of course both Green and K&N will perform well when new, but what about the long term effects? How well does the filter last in the long term? Not only from the performance perspective, but also in filtration ability. Yes some people see a SLIGHT improvement in power, but often times they are doing a baseline with dirty paper filters, and comparing that to fresh K&N/Green filters. Also, I don't care what race cars use, some of them have thier engines re-built all the time. There are MANY components on a race car that just aren't practical in a day to day environment.

I'm not saying that these products are bad, I'm saying that they may not be necessary or the best idea on our engines. We've seen them clog up MAF's when over oiled. We've seen them fall apart, both the media and the gasket around the media. Why would you want to risk any of this when the paper media performs admirably, filters particulates better, and there are no concerns about warranty or MAF issues?

Oil based filters have been gunking up MAFs since their conception. K&Ns or another brand its just a fact of life. If you clean your K&Ns with the do it yourself kit be careful not to over oil them. Thats usually when they become problematic.
