Greg, thanx for posting this pic. Still the all time favorite.
How's the C?

Did anyone take into consideration the powerband of these cars. It seems like everyone is using peak hp as the determining factor.....

Also who really cares. The C55 is a nicer car all around.

A few people have it backwards, torque plays even more of a factor from a roll (hence why NA 55 AMGs can take down M3s at speed). Torque is king in the straights, its actually a disadvantage from a stand still due to wheel spin (unless you can get full traction off the line). M3s are also extremely aggressively geared (b/c of their high redline they can be), as a result at low speeds they get moving down the road real quick, launch control helps in that regard as well. However, once the cars are moving... that advantage no longer exists, then its just straight line torque that wins at higher speeds. On a race track different story, but in straight line AMG def has advantage from roll (I'd know) :) . Surprisingly even vs. DSG no speed was lost between gears against the M3. It was relatively close but AMG won once speeds started to increase.

There's no replacement for displacement...

NOT true. Torque is king in straights, and from a standstill. Rolling starts is really an import concept, since imports (particularly Asian imports) are generally small engine/low torque but high strung. You are confusing torque with a multitude of other concepts like traction/launch control/rev band/etc.

Off the line, I would think C55 would easily keep up. Down a twisty road or where there is more room to wind out the M3 is when the M3 will pull away.

+1, qtr mile drag racing is a uniquely American concept. For years, all of the European car mags tested from a rolling start as did a LOT of the Japanese Car Mags. Torque is king in this 1/4 mile arena and yes, those 4 or 6 cylinder Japanese cars don't tend to have a LOT of it, that's why they tend to do better on a rolling start than a digg. Its still amazing to me that Honda, despite having a V-8 for years (in racing), has never put one in an American Car. The RL was supposed to get it this year and they cancelled that project.

Oh, where's the cupcakes??? ^^^

Can i input on this? since I have both?

The AMG is torqed up, but no way as fast as the M3, even my AMG is modded with Eurocharge tune, pulley, E55 boxes, and true dual exhaust!

Please clarify, are we talking E46, E9XX or what here?? Are you saying that your AMG (as modded above ^^^) is not as quick/fast as your M3 or is it the handling issue.
