Door locks

Are there any aftermarket door lock pins that would make them flush with the door? I just hate that my elbow hits them every time I have the window open and my arm up on the door.

Thanks!

No idea on those.
I looked for the ones I have and they are no longer offered.

Just be careful with the flush pins that they don't get stuck inside the socket when you grab the handle to unlock/open the door. I got some bad pins on Ebay that were drilled to different "depths" on the inside, and not only did some get stuck, but when the doors were unlocked, they sat at different heights!

I took mine off all together at first and my door lock got stuck inside. There are some cheap OEM ones that you can use that sit flush. I will check tomorrow and get you the part# they work perfect.

Thank you very much for the info.

One last question, do you recall where you got them? When I google that part number, all I get are a few foreign country websites.

Go to the dealer/parts department. They aren't pretty (cheap plastic) but it's cheap and you can rest you arm on the door sill now!

Door Lock Pins

Bought these off ebay (~$30 delivered) and just installed.

Very pleased. They mount pretty low and look great. Have a look for yourself - some before and after shots.

SoCalC55,

Good questions. Yes, I had to think through the install.

First, the new pins are significantly shorter than the OEM (golf tee type) ones. The problem is that if you screw them all the way down so they are tight, they are a tad too low. What I mean by that is they pull the ring around the pin opening down a little into the door as the lock engages. I did not want this for several reasons - was worried about the doors potentially not locking (although probably very unlikely) and I did not want the OEM ring to crack under the pressure. The good thing is that pins come with what I would call a cylindrical rubber bushing. Was not sure what to do with them originally. It is a cylinder which slides into the open end of the door lock pin - not all the way, but about 75% of the way in. The rubber cylinder is open on one end with a small opening on the other side - not a pin hole, but an opening that is slightly narrower than the screw end of the stalk sticking up through the door (which you screw the pin onto). I was worried about just pushing the bushing into the end of the AMG pin (it is a snug fit, but you can pull it back out) and forcing it onto the stalk in the door because if I ever needed to remove the AMG pin I thought the bushing would be stuck on the stalk and might interfere with the operation of the OEM pin (should I decide to put that back on - if perhaps I was unhappy with the fit or the way the AMG pin looked once installed). I heard some folks claim that the metal/chrome pins (that is what this one is made of) could rattle against the cap at the top of the door - and that would drive me nuts. So I wanted to cover my downside risk.

So what I decided to do was to super glue the rubber bushing inside the opening of the AMG pins. Once dry I then pushed the new AMG pin into the stalk - forcing the screw end of the stalk to pierce through the inside end of the rubber bushing and therefore allowing the threads at the upper end of the AMG pin to contact the screw end of the stalk. It was hard to turn the AMG pin as this rubber bushing made a "very tight" (a good thing) seal with the stalk. After turning the AMG pins many, many times I was able to get them to seat precisely where I wanted them. I must say that I did this last night and my fingers still sting a bit from the pressure I had to apply to turn the AMG pin. This is because the inside opening on the rubber bushing sits so tight against the screw end of the stalk. As I said, this is a very good thing as there will be no chance for the AMG pins to rattle inside the door. Once I did the first one, I grabbed a small drill bit and with my hands worked it in and out of the small opening on the rubber bushing of the other three pins - so as to make the install on those a bit easier than the first one - and it did.

The AMG pins come with a metal/chrome cap - which is meant to be placed on top (or in place) of the existing OEM cap - which mounts on the door. I choose note to use this cap for two reasons. First, I was worried it might not seat perfectly. Second, I was concerned it would eventually come loose (from the door slamming closed time and time again) and I would have the rattling while driving I was trying to avoid. Once the AMG pins are on you won't want to remove them to get rid of the chrome cap so I decided to leave the stock cap in place. I think it looks very good this way. The seats have the chrome (looking) AMG labels on them without a chrome (looking) surround so I think it matches well with the seats (chrome on black - my seats and door sills are black as my car is black on black).

Hope this provides the additional color you were looking for. I think it was $30 well spent.

Mike

The CLK pins sit flush and only cost around a buck and a half at the dealer.

Northyork,

I can confirm that those will fit flush (at least on my C55). I had to use a lil double-sided tape on the rear doors, but other than that no problems.

Northyork, I have those door locks on mine and can also confirm that they sit flush. I've had the skin on my arm caught in it a couple of times when the doors auto lock. Other than that they are great.

I use these. They are flush enough for me and look great. Best $20 bucks I ever spent.
