shift knob removal
Now it's loose and I suspect there is a bolt or screw under the shift knob cap. Can anyone confirm this or tell me how this comes off?thx!
Mike

Pull up the boot over the knob and you'll see a black round piece at the bottom (its actually two pieces, one is a clip and the other is secured to the boot). The locking clip turns 90 degrees and it's loose.
You'll see there's a recess on the shaft where the knob clips onto in four places. Some people say just pull up really hard, but that might cause you to hurt yourself or some other part in your car. Take a couple of small screwdrivers and work your way around. Eventually it'll pop loose as you pull up softly/slowly.
There is nothing screwed on underneath the knob cap. The knob itself is two pieces (the front half and the back half) and the cap at one point was either clipped or glued and isn't easily removable (I tried...).
Don't forget to reattach the locking clip when you're done, I've forgotten to do that twice.
