How do you tell people that don't know what "AMG" is?
I'm guessing 98% of the general public don't know what the difference between a C230 and a C55/C32 and have no idea what "AMG" is. I've described it is the Mustang vs the Mustang Cobra (best American correlation I can think of) but that's not a very accurate description. Fist quesiton is, how often do you guys run into someone that knows what you have? Secondly, how do you describe it to a co-worker or family member that has no idea?

C32/C55 AMG
They will not realize the difference until they have had a chance to drive an amg. Some people will think they have an amg if they have rims or if their car had the badge on it when they bought it.
One of my coworkers has a 540i and he said that it is essentially the same as an M5 and I told him that you would be surprised at how different the cars really are. There's no amount of explanation for some people especially if they are not car enthusiasts. Some people think a car is just for going from point A to point B, so they could care less about specialty cars and will just go for a brand because of status or what people think about it.

i just tell them its the mercedes equal to a m3. I guess in domestic terms, you can say its like a shelby but imagine shelby being bought by ford and officially becoming part of ford or a ford svt..i guess.

I have a little canned speech about one man, one engine and that usually makes a bit of an impression of how different at least the engine is. In the end, if they aren't car enthusiasts, they don't understand why expensive cars are expensive or why anyone in their right mind would spend money on such a thing. I bought mine to please me, I don't really care if anyone else gets it, it is nice to occasionally talk to someone who does.

I saw a guy on 53 southbound the other day with "Lorinser" all over his Benz. It was on the sides, the rear and the tint strip. Other than true fans like us, few if any know (or care) Lorinser or Kleeman or any of the other "tuners " out there!!

I just tell them its an extremely rare high performance Mercedes. Normally that awes them enough, and if not I just tell them that it's got a hand built V8.

I used to use the "equivalent of an M3", "handbuilt V8", etc. Now, I don't say anything unless I'm asked, then I say it has "big 425 hp V8 and other stuff". I'll only discuss the car in detail if the questioner is a real car enthusiast.
