Bumping a very old thread but I am having difficulty finding an exhaust shop that uses stainless steel. It seems everyone uses aluminum.

For those who have done a res delete, are you using stainless or aluminum?

Stainless, strange using aluminium. That's unheard of to me using aluminium for an exhaust.

I’ve done it a few times, and it has lasted for a long time. Can’t get it too close to the manifolds, and flex couplers are recommended. I wouldn’t use it for the area around the converters, but resonator back. Aluminum mufflers are more difficult to find and more expensive. Weight savings over a stock exhaust can be 50lbs or more. With a light gauge stainless it’s much less of a difference.

You are confusing aluminum and aluminized pipe. The aluminized pipe is steel with aluminum coating so it doesn’t corrode on the outside. It corrodes from the inside out. Most exhaust shops use this, as it is easier to bend than stainless. Most exhaust benders aren’t equipped to bend metric sizes either.

yes, you very well may be right. I’m a noob when it comes to this. I’ve found a shop who use straight stainless and I’m just going to do the resonator. The ss is an up charge but only $50. It’s my first mod. Perhaps it will be enough!
