Shorty headers? Sound difference?

I have a few questions about shorty headers. I've never used headers before so I don't have any experience with them. I know long tubes are the way to go, but I don't really want to spent thousands on headers, cats, and custom exhaust work. What companies make a short header for the C55 that will retain my stock primary cats? Is worth installing shorty headers? Anything has to be better than stock manifolds, but what kind of gains could be expected in power and sound?

AMS and Evosport both make bolt on shortys for the C55. Both are sponsors of this site. There is also Renntech that make a set of shortys but at much greater $$$. I haven't done a dyno with shortys but from what I've read - 8 to 15 rwhp on our naturally aspirated 5.5 engine....

I gained about 48 rwhp from kleemann mid length headers, tune and deleting my secondaries.

AMS says that with shorties and deleting the primaries you can get similar gains to getting mid length headers.

The sound though from my car is ridiculous in person though. See my dyno vid in my signature but it doesn't do it any justice.

Wow, that's a good gain. What did you do about your primary cats?

The AMS headers look more like manifolds made from tubing, doesn't look like much gain is to be had. Unless I missed them the Evo headers are designed for the kompressor cars.

I found them now that I had a little more time to look around. Do you offer a version that is not ceramic coated so it is cheaper in cost?

No, the coating is critical for our lifetime warranty as well as maximizing performance. The coating adds another 3-5 whp gain.

thanks

the primary cats were deleted by the kleemann downpipes included with the headers. I might put on high flow secondaries eventually just because the exhaust stinks though.

Alright, do you ever have any sales or anything? I was hoping I could do headers without spending over $1000. I know I gotta pay to play and all but goodness.

Ah, I have to have cats to pass emissions.
