C32 non-OEM Primary Cats

Has anyone been successful in locating non-OEM replacements for the C32 primary cats that will pass smog in Cali? I have searched and searched, without success. Magnaflow looked like they might have something, but when I called them they said "no."

I would go the OEM route, but they are ridiculously expensive, and I would rather have metal core (vs. ceramic) anyways.

Any ideas?

When they say no they mean they do not have any that are legal but I bet most anything they sell would pass emissions if you could get a shop to install them. Most shops won't do it though as it is not legal for them to install.

How many miles, I am hoping I do not have to get mine replaced some day.

Hey Zepp! Good to hear from you.

They started rattling intermittently (probably caused by broken ceramic pieces) at about 50K miles. By 60K or so it was shameful/unbearable.

Just finished a Service B at 186,000 miles on my 2002 C32, CEL was on and the dealer identified it as a failing catalytic convertor. The price is outrageous, has anyone tried the non-OEM cats with success? I'm assuming most people are only replacing the the main cat in the rear, not the pre-cat in the front? Would love to know if any of these other solutions actually work...I have a date with Maryland emissions in mid-November!

I am in the same situation as you in needing 2 new catalytic converters (the ones located under the front seats) which are rattling because the honeycomb filter has broken down.

the OEM ones from the dealer are almost $1k each and thats for remanufactured ones.

i searched and found these - anyone use these before or know if they will work? it says they are for C32 AMGs but not sure if they will work...
