I don't think there was a sports package; I believe the newer ones came with oil coolers but even those go into limp mode. The dying fuel pump is retarded though; my friend replaced his twice under warranty...had the long crank issue.

There is a Sport Package. There is also a M Sport Package.
All 335i with sport package+ 5MT receive oil coolers. This went into effect with cars entering production after 1 March 07. This explains why some have oil coolers, and some dont.

Apparently the 335i Automatics do not get fitted with an oil cooler. The reason for this is that BMWNA assumed that automatic owners did not drive their cars aggro. 335i with oil coolers are located in the pass front wheel wheel. Easy to spot.

i remember when i was looking for one about two or so yrs ago, i wasn't even considering a non-sport package one as they wouldn't have the oil cooler. and almost always, the salesman had no clue if the car had an oil cooler...so i just checked myself! (front passenger wheel well)

I figured people were just saying Mexico, but I would consider that kind of pointless. Oh well, to each their own...

Ah that makes sense because my friend's was a manual transmission and he had oil coolers but never mentioned any sport package. My other buddy's automatic 335i didn't have the oil coolers...but he drove his so much harder than anybody else lol. /Threadjack! Sorry lol

the early model autos didn't have the oil cooler. The newer ones with the sports package does have the oil cooler, both auto and manual.

Basically if you have this grille on the inner fender, you have the factory oil cooler. The 335i goes into limp mode when the oil temps hit 300.

The reports that i have read, BMW was real selective (or just not consistent) about which autos made after '07 had an oil cooler. Apparently it cost BMW $1500-$2000 ea to retrofit one to a car at the delaership. So the ones that were skipped on, BMW was real reluctant to give those owners a retrofitted oil cooler, even going so far as to tell owners it was normal for their cars to go into Limp mode because it was a failsafe.
