Anyone know the torque rating for the lower control arms (properly called torque and thrust arms)? I dont have a service manual.

Did you replace it yourself? I need to replace mine soon and was wondering how difficult it is to DIY? I would be interested in the torque ratings as well.

I plan to replace myself. The job looks fairly straightforward and simple. I am sure you can do it if you have basic shop tools, jack, jackstands, etc.

Yeh, doesn't look too difficult. I'll try it out. But, we do need the torque specs..

We could split the cost on access to a service manual for a day.

Thanks a lot, at least gives us an idea. I might stop by and ask my SA. BTW I just ordered the control arms from Pelican Parts for $58.00 each. The Brand is Karlyn (don't know if they are any good), but the price is very good.

Not a bad idea. I will do some more research to see if I can come up with something. I'll let you know.

You might as well replace the thrust arms while you are there. If the others are shot then the thrust arms won't be far behind those.

I think the information you are looking for regarding the torque strut may be in the service file below. I'm posting the entire file as jpeg thumbnails just in case anyone wants the protocol for removing / installing it:

I know, I thought about it. It's too late now the control arms should be here tomorrow and I only have this weekend to work on them. Hopefully the others are fine for now.

Going to get up around 7AM tomorrow morning, and attempt to do radiator, coolant pump, and heat exchanger along with full transmission/coolant flush... Don't think I'll finish in a day. Any issues you ran into that could help save me some time?

Radiator is a bit time consuming. I took the fan out first. Splinter has a pictorial on the job. Might want to search it. I had trouble separating the radiator from the other coolers. May want to drain the tranny while you are working on the radiator. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you

I am going to do the thrust arms tomorrow. Any pointers? Do you think I need an alignment right way? I'm going to do an oil change as well, do guys know if I can reset the counter eventhough it says I have 200 miles to Service B. Doesn't say service due yet. Thanks.

I get the arms confused. Are you changing the aluminum arms or the steel ones? The steel ones are much easier and shouldn't take long at all. The aluminum arms require that you unbolt the strut from the spindle/hub assembly and rotate it out of the way so the aluminum control arm can be removed.

I know I get confused too. Its the Thrust arms which are the steel ones. Its the lower one pictured on the ball joint thread. So I guess the lower arms are much easier. It looks like there is pretty good access. I actually didn't get a chance to work on the car at all this weekend. I might just do it after work this week. I actually have had a new suspension sitting in my garage for a while now and was thinking to just giving it to some one to install and swap out the thrust arms at the sam time. However, was going to hold off until spring as the springs will lower the car considerably and if we have a winter anywhere close to what we had last year it's not a good idea. I guess I'll make decision once I have the car up on jacks.
