i kinda like it coz its relatively cheap and has a big V8!!! styling-wise, the M3 is still the #1 for me.

I like the M3's styling better. From the road tests I've seen to date, the S4 handles better than the M3 and C32, although I don't know if its as fast. Its a shame this S4 is not as easy to tune as the previous one. I drove a friends stage 3 S4 at Sears Point last summer and couldn't believe how fast it got up to 100 MPH. The turbos just produce just effortless power.

The "styling" in a word ? Boring! Very banal.

For those of you that styling may be important, that is.

I think the answer that you'll get in here will be very different than the answer that you'll get on the audiworld forum! Personally, other than Quattro, I cant see anything good about it. Its just another Audi. However, RS4 is another story!!

I like the look of the new S4. I think it looks even better than the current S4 (still very nice). The car looks classy yet sporty like the C32. If the world is without C32s and M3s, I'll go for the S4. AWD and a big V8, hell, I don't even need my SUV for snowboarding anymore.

'00 Audi S4
Being a current S4 owner, I like the older version better. Both styling and engine of the B5 platform appeal to me more than the new B6 S4. I don't think very many current S4 owners will be trading in for the new S4.

S4 Avant (B6)...

will be my choice if C32 is not avaliable. Seden is not bad either but I love the Avant. I will vote also on RS6 Avant over E55 if avaliable. Since RS6 Avant will not be avalible in US and RS6 will be only import thru 12/31/2003. (It didn't pass the emission for 2004). It's going to be a collector's item for sure.
I'm just wondering why some poeople don't like the style of S4 but like the RS4..because of the Avant??
Too bad US won't have the RS6 Avant...

Let's not low blow Audi and say that Volvo is better. I'd rather own a Sabb than a Volvo. BTW, I hope you don't take offense to this comment seeing you have a Volvo in you Sig. I just have a lot of respect for the S4 and will defend it when someone compares ANY Volvo to it.

S4 looks wayyy to subtle in it's new form. I'd still pick my C32 if I wan to get a performance compact sedan again, and pick the M3 if I want a coupe.

Audi's interior has always been better than BMW or MB after the first A4 came out followed by the A8 and current A6.

of course not. saabs are quirky...and company in red ink for a long time...think they just might be turning the corner tho... yeah...the older volvos (including mine) would have trouble not in the straights, but the twisties. the new volvo s60r/v70r p2 platform has a new suspension system called the 4c that was co-developed between monroe and ohlins...adjusts valving 500 times a second. three settings adjustable from the dash, comfort/sport/advanced sport. the s4 avant is simply too small to be practical as a wagon (the rear seats are laughable...it's incredibly small). add the sleeper value in a volvo ...and the look on other people's face when they get passed by a wagon (which i've done many times ... but 275 hp isn't that exciting anymore...was 8 years ago )....anyhoo....what i'm really interested in seeing is the next c50r.

btw...how do u like this instrument cluster?

new audi S4

If you go to Road and Tracks web site you can get a quick review of the new S4. It looks hot to me and that big V8 is very exciting. But so little torque. Four wheel drive too.. yikes. this is a real screamer. The new R cars from Volvo are gonna be real nice as well. Im hoping they do a R type for the S80 and add an awd system. Maybe about 400hp and Im sold. Having owned a previous S80, my only disappointment was the front wheel drive. Other than that the car was very nice. Stereo was great, seats were comfy, lots of amenities. But really a highway cruiser not a mountain slicer. It did ok but not in the same sentence as a S4 or C32. Anyone know how the new S60R compares to any of the german rivals?

Bland styling aside, I'm still not sold on Audi's reliability, or lack thereof. Heard of waaaaaaay too many problems from owners and magazine articles.

actually...they are introducing the 4c suspension to the s80...so it won't be such a boat in the mountains. donno if the awd is gonna get added tho. they just did a comparo on a magazine a few months back btween the m3, s4, and s60r. i think the mag rated performance wise, that's how it stands in that order too... the s60r is probably more a sporty tourer than a real track car like the m3 is. i think that article was posted here somehwere...

Volvo has invited me to test drive the S60R with trained professional drivers. I'll try to take some pictures and post remarks of how it compares with the C32.

Exact same sentiments, for some reason I prefer the Avant variants (B6 S4 Avant, B5 RS4, RS2, RS6 Avant)

The reliability of the turbo v-6 in the old S4 will kill out of warranty resale. The new one looks sweet but with Audi reliability and the concomitant hit in resale value I'm not sure that I would lay out 50K for one. I like the idea of a manual transmission and V-8 a lot.

Anyone know if the new S4 will offer DSG or CVT besides regular manual and tiptronic?

I really love the V8 grunt. But of course I still love my C32 .

Its a V8 and I think thats kinda lame. I love the V6 twin turbo thing. You can tune the hell outta those things.
Although a V8 w/ a Turbo upgrade will be pretty crazy.

v8 and bi-turbo v6 weight the same, and the n/a v8 is more reliable than the turbo engine.

here's what the 'CAR' magazine said about the engine:
"Don't ask us how you get 4.2 litres of V8 under the bonnet of an A4. we wouldn't have a clue. thankfully ingenious men at Audi did and it goes something like this. take Audi's standard 4.2 - the one you'll find in the A8 - and re-engineer it, cleverly taking all the metal bits that drive the pumps, valvetrain and so on from the front and threading them between the block and the flywheel at the back. hey presto, a V8 that's 46.4cm long, some 52 mm shorter than the old one.
it's not only shorter, but also way lighter. each piston carries 15 percent less weight, and the conrods are similarly reduced. all in all that means a block that weighs in at just 195kg, the same as the previous S4's biturbo 2.7litre V6.
And does it work? well, it revs to 7200, has 344bhp and 303lb ft torque and hits 62 mph from rest in 5.6sec. it works..."

That magazine dissed the C32 hard. I am in the same bulding as Hartmann Mortorsport/Intrax who is an APR dealer/installer. I see 400+ HP S4's every day. I have also built an A4 1.8t and never had reliability problems and the V6 Twin Turb is very reliable, except for the first year when most of the turbos blew. I just think that this young tuner market does not want a V8.
Now my friend Scotty who owns the joint ordered a RS6 through Champion. That thing will be sick. They will put bigger turbos on it.
