Anyone Install Code 3 Intercooler??
I have an original Code 3 Intercooler (yes, Brandon's) sitting in a box and was thinking about installing it this week. Anyone done one of these and were there any issues. If so, how was the install and what parts do I need?? Once installed, how did it work??? Any leaking or other issues?? There was a thread about 16 months ago BUT no updates since then??

Reportedly it does and DOESNT?? I can't seem to get a straight answer on this issue?? Its a nice piece and is about 1/2 the weight of the OEM Unit.
If you look at overdrives thread on this, you'll see BOTH units side by side and size does NOT appear to be an issue BUT once he installed it, it became an issue and he went back to OEM. He did state it seems to flow better than stock (informal testing).

.... Which version do you have.... It its one of the last ones he made, It should be plug in play.... You will need to take the sensors off the old one, along with the coolant nozzles. You will also need new gaskets for the S/C to the intercooler, and you may have to adjust the height (What I mean is those to stubs on the new intercooler that have a hole in them may not be drilled correctly) For some reason mine seemed to wide to fit in the engine (Was hitting the block on the sides and not resting down.

Didn't we find out the Code 3 core in the intercooler is actually an air to air, and not water to air thus likely being less efficient than the stock unit?

hey glenn, got your vm
Unless yours is blown, don't bother with the c3 unit. Its not worth the money to install it as there were little to no gains.

Also, finally installing the Code 3 "cool can" for the IC. I know you had one of those in your car.
Jake, do you know it it was water to air or air to air??

doesnt work.
The only value to it was when people are having the leaking ic issues, this unit was hundreds cheaper than an oem unit.
cool-can does tho, and good call installing that...

i bought lounge14's code3 intercooler. It was able to fit fine with no leaks, no real gain or lost. Its air to water like the oem unit.
I agree with lounge14, its good to keep as a back up in case the oem one leaks.

BTW, by looking at the core on the Code 3 IC, it appears to be an air-air core, not water to air, BUT apparently it still functions.

All installs completed. Code 3 IC went in with NO problem (despite my trepidations). Had to shave about 1/8 inch off the "tabs" for fitment, BUT car running fine. No leaks. Also installed the Code 3 "phenolics" with Needswings gasket set for intakes. Code 3 "Cool Can" intercooler reservoir also installed as well as the Code 3 HE for intercooler. No leaks, BUT last nights drive home was 37 degrees F in the rain so I couldn't do a proper evaluation.
FYI, the Intercooler system is now totally isolated from the engine cooling. The Johnson pump now runs when the key is in position 2 even if engine not running. Great for track day cool down.
Many thanks to Jo and Marcin at "Speedriven" in Palatine IL for their expertise and assistance in this project.
