Just as I thought: Ducati V. Ferrari

OK, much debate is thrown around on the bike versus car issue. Well, there's a great article in the most recent Jan 2011 Motor Trend with car of the year on the front. Starting on Page 84 of the print version, there's a great test on the Ducati 1198 S versus the Ferrari 458 Italia. As I have always surmised, the bike absolutely whips the car in the QTR and in this test, even on the Streets Of Willow Track. A pure thrashing:

Qtr Mile;

Duck: 10.0 at 144.9 (and this is slow by current superbike standards where 9.5 qtr. is closer to average and 150-155 trap is more usual/reasonable)

Ferrari: 11.1 at 125 .2

Streets of Willow (a notoriously tight track of 1.8 miles) :

Duck : 79.72 sec

Ferrari: 82.30

Price:

Duck: $ 21,795

Ferrari: Duck X 13 at : $ 288,000 (ouch)

** once again, the power to weight ratio superiority of 2.6 lbs/hp versus 6.2lbs/hp is evident ***

Now, ice ,snow, cold weather and rain, thats a whole other issue. Although, Ive never seen a Ferrari in the snow or ice or rain for that matter!!!

that 1/4 mile time on the 458 is almost hard to believe. from 2000-2007 ferrari didn't really pay much attention to the performance of their production cars in my opinion, unless you were willing to spend the 650k+ on an enzo

I didn't know the bike vs. car thing was still going on - bikes whoop on the cars almost every time, at least in stock form.

Jo, even worse when modded. You of all should know from the Texas Mile that the highest speed was on a bike at 280!!!

Yeh. My reaction as well. So what if a bike's faster? Bikes are almost always faster. I still have zero interest in them.

It really depends on tracks (short vs long dis) but car should have more advantages on tracks.
